Violin In Progress

Jan 10, 2013 11:49

As it says in my very newly-created Bio, I play the violin. It is an amazing instrument that takes a lot of study and practice to play, and even more of the same to make one. The violin makers of 17th century Cremona have set a high standard that luthiers ever since have worked tirelessly to pursue. I myself am constantly trying to better a better player, doing honor to the craftsmanship that went into the instrument's creation by honing my own craft.

Finished violins are beautiful, stained with varnish and shined with polish, but there is something appealing in the aesthetic of a violin whose wood is still bare, still smells of the tree from which it has been cut. The violin, in its unfinished state, reminds me of other things that are still works in progress, and still beautiful in their own right.
