Merry Christmas!

Dec 23, 2010 00:48

Man, my life is busy as heck lately.

So here's a quick update before I get my 5-6 hours of sleep. (EDIT: Quick? Lawl, took me the better part of half an hour to write all this. So I'm categorizing, cutting, and chronological-izing to save you all the trouble of trying to decipher my jumbled thoughts.

Went out and had my 'Christmas' with my boyfriend yesterday, as he'll be out of town to see parents for Christmas. First time I'd seen him in two weeks and arguably the only time in a three week span that I'll see him. So we went out to a really nice place for dinner, I'd never been but it was amazing, like Chinese food but quite upscale.
And we saw Tron! In Imax! In 3D! It was like gorgeous visual Scenery Porn, to bring TV Tropes into this, although the plotline was pretty solid considering everyone went for the visuals. I loved it, and I know my boyfriend appreciated it quite a lot more than I did, but he grew up loving computers and math and sciency things because of the original Tron. :P

And we traded Christmas gifts! I got him a poster of the movie Metropolis, it's science-fiction and German and from like 1936, and it's one of his favorites. He was quite pleased with it. :D

He went and got me two geeky books and then that morning ran out and bought a third! Cue all the awwws from all the females/romantics/people-who-aww on my f-list. <3

1. How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe - it's a novel but written really interestingly, and his rationale was that it "had a lot to do with all that timey-wimey stuff" and that it would help when I'm travelling across time and space.

2. Doctor Who and Philosophy (Bigger on the Inside) - it looks epic, it's really super new as it's got all of Eleven's stuff in it, and reminds me of the scholastic Whedonverse books that delve deeper into the morals and ethics and all. Which I already adore as I love going into the thought processes and deep stuff. My boyfriend said that since I'm going to be a future companion of the Doctor, it's important to at least try to know how he thinks. XDDD

3. The last (and biggest) book he got me was Doctor Who: The Writer's Tale by RTD. Which OMG that thing is huge have you seen it. I had a feeling that was what the big wrapped thing was, and I'm quite pleased and happy. <333
And he said this book might help when I become a successful actress and could he please have a musical about math. XDD

It was utterly adorable when he told me he almost got me a sonic screwdriver but he thought it would be 'too geeky'.
Awwwwwwwwww.

As of now, I'm not getting many hours in as far as work, but that's cause I'm still heavily babysitting for my coworker. I don't mind it but it gets tiring. For example, today I babysat for nine hours, 2-10pm. (Although I put the baby to bed at 7 and got three solid hours of peaceful silence.) Tomorrow I'm babysitting from 7am-3pm, for eight hours. I'm getting paid by the day, not the hour, so when you work it out by per hour it's kinda ridiculous, but  I'm not complaining at all 'cause I'm lucky to have two part-time jobs when many people don't have any right now.

In other news, my NYC trip is a go! I've already bought/printed my Next to Normal ticket and I'm very close to my goal for my budget. I get paid for both jobs on Christmas Eve, or right after, and that should put me within $20 of my goal - which not only covers essentials (hotel, ticket, bus fare, food) but also includes a decent amount of spending money. Not a whole lot, mind you, unless something happens and I get random cash for Christmas (no complaints here!) but enough so that I can get something reasonable if I feel like it. Next up, I'm paying for the hostel and then the bus. Decided against staying an extra/night day because 1) I don't know if I can entirely afford it and 2) I'll be alone as far as I know, and it wouldn't be nearly as nice without someone fun to go exploring/geeking/etc with.

And I just finished watching Love Actually for the first time ever, with harbek (Thank you!) It was fun playing HEY IT'S THAT GUY for pretty much the entirety of the movie. Side note, I can never ever take Bill Nighy seriously in a role anymore. Ever. Even if he is Davy Jones and the awesome VanGogh-loving curator with a bowtie in Doctor Who. And I've come to the conclusion that I need to see Alan Rickman in more movies. (Does it say anything that Die Hard is on my Christmas movie list this year? - other than the fact that I initially only watched solely because of him. )
-------

I'm hopefully going to a Who-themed New Years Eve get-together, so if that all works out I'll be more than happy, we're gonna be watching Christmas specials (minus Voyage of the Damned and hopefully minus Donna's) including the new one.

My big plan is to surprise my good friend (and host) with not only her Christmas gift - which is a DVD of the Fifth Doctor's story 'Black Orchid', her favorite - but to bring cookies and mini-cakes. The cookies shall be round with the Seal of Rassilon in black icing, and the mini-loaf cakes are going to be as TARDIS-like as I can get them with shape and icing.

I promise pics will come when I make cookies! Gonna make 'em Christmas Eve with my sister and grandfather. <3333333333
We've got a ton of cookie cutters but these two things will be my particular projects.

And then next year, or whenever I'm able, I'm making the Doctors, all as decorated gingerbread men.  >:D
