I have just figured out the thing I hate most about the Tea Party Movement, and it is not just the flawed political views. It is the blatant disregard for history.
I love history. If history were to become an anthropomorphic personality, I would kidnap them, tie them up in my basement, and make them my love slave. I love history THAT much.
The Tea Party Movement seems to be a bunch of angry people who are too stupid to understand the history of their own country. I'm not saying this because I don't agree with them. I'm saying this BECAUSE THEY ARE STUPID.
Here is why:
They have taken their name from the Boston Tea Party, an incident where some Bostonians (mostly Sons of Liberty) dressed up like Native Americans (to disguise themselves) and dumped a TON (or more) tea into Boston Harbor in order to protest the British taxes being levied on the American Colonies. This irritated the American colonists because the colonists did not (and could not) elect members to British Parliament. They were being taxed without representation. Hence, the phrase "No taxation without representation". Last I checked, most 3rd graders are taught this in U.S. schools.
This new "Tea Party Movement" seems to not know any of this. They are upset that President Obama started taxing people more in an attempt to pull the country out of the shitter. They began to insist that this was "Taxation without representation." THEY ARE STUPID. If you can vote in an election, YOU ARE REPRESENTED. Sure, the person you like may not be elected, but you got to help choose. Hence, you are in fact represented.
These people seem to have an almost unhealthy love for the Founding Fathers of the U.S. (I would know about unhealthy love, see previous comment about history). But they seem to not get something. The FIRST legislative act of the United States government was to essentially start a tax riot. Allow me to demonstrate:
U.S. Government: Shit, we owe a LOT of money for that war we just won. The Dutch are breathing down our necks and the Italians keep glaring at us and muttering something about "Tommy J" and "sleeping with fishes". Wait! We know! We have been elected by the people of this country! They understand that if we tax them, they are represented. I know! Let's tax Whiskey!
---a few weeks go by---
U.S. Government: Uh...guys....why are Pennsylvania and the western part of Virginia (because West Virginia was NOT one of the 13 colonies and wasn't a state until around the Civil War) erupting into violence? Oh...oh....shit. The taxes, huh? Damn...we better send the national..uhm...I guess army?
--everyone calms down--
U.S. Government: These people are idiots.
