Once his leg healed up, Roy was ready for some action. Donna had just broken up with him, so he wasn't feeling up to finding that kind of action just yet, but fighting crime helped. Maybe he should have told Dick or even Garth that he was going out on his own, but he was a big boy; he could take care of himself.
Roy kept telling himself that as he nocked back an arrow, letting it take out the crook trying to shoot a little girl and her big brother. The brother had been knocked out, but he was just starting to stir. The little girl had to be about Lian's age, so Roy couldn't help but jump in and stop this mugging in progress.
Unfortunately, the first mugger had a helper who pointed his gun and shot at the little girl with no warning. Roy had no time to stop him, and he just watched in horror as the bullet flew towards the frightened little girl.
Suddenly, instead of hitting the girl, she disappeared in a blue blur. The shooter stared, shocked for a long moment, and that gave Roy enough time to hit him an knockout gas arrow; the trick arrows sometimes still came in handy.
Roy looked back to find where to girl had went to see the girl in her brother's arms on the other side of the alley. “How did you...” Roy trailed off as the brother looked up.
“I have no idea,” the guy admitted, petting his sister's hair. “It was like this burst of speed came over me when I saw my sister...”
After a moment of staring, Roy offered his hand. “How about I walk you two home?” he questioned. “I'm Arsenal, part of the Titans.”
The brother stood up, carrying his sister piggyback. “I'm Owen, Owen Mercer,” Owen told him.
“I'm Kay Mercer,” the little girl replied, peeking over Owen's shoulder. “My brother is super fast, and he saved me. That makes him a hero, like you!”
Owen shushed his sister, his face a little red, and Roy chuckled. “Could be,” he replied. “When I bring you guys home, I'm gonna see where your brother's power came from.”
“Yay, Owen's gonna be a Titan!” Kay exclaimed, clinging to her brother. “This is gonna be awesome!”
