Mia wondered how the hell she got herself into this situation. For one, she was in Gotham City, and that was on the complete other side of the country. That could easily be explained away by saying she was there to see Robin, but she hadn’t been able to find him out on the patrol route.
That just lead to who she was presently with, Jason Todd. She had run into him while looking for Robin, and now she somehow got sucked into hitting a club in her civvies with him. He had promised he’d find Robin for her if she came in with him. Mia rolled her eyes at him, but she didn’t have many other choices; the Teen Titans communicator she had from when she was part of the team wasn’t on her, so she couldn’t contact him directly.
Exasperated, Mia used her charms and feminine wiles to get a rum and coke out of the bartender as she watched Jason moving through the crowd. It was starting to look like the night would be a total wash, her trip to Gotham included until she saw Jason sidle up to a pretty young thing on the other side of the bar. Mia rolled her eyes. Of course Jason was just here to get himself laid, she thought as she took another sip of her drink.
After another moment of watching Jason flirt with this girl, she almost did a spit take. She swallowed and waved off the bartender that was giving her a weird look. Mia smirked as she continued to watch Jason flirt with the ‘girl’ who seemed completely flustered by him. Jason said something then he leaned down for a kiss. The ‘girl’ didn’t seem to protest until she suddenly pulled away and bolted.
When Jason came back to where Mia was sitting, he looked like the cat that had gotten the canary; Mia was feeling pretty smug herself. “You know, girls bolting from you because you’re a terrible kisser shouldn’t be a reason to be so smug,” Mia said airily.
Jason just smirked. “Nah, she liked me,” he announced as he ordered himself a beer.
Mia shook her head, smug smile not leaving her lips. “By the way, that girl you were flirting with? Yeah, definitely not a girl,” she announced smoothly, waiting for that smirk to get wiped off Jason’s lips.
Except the grin only got wider, and Mia’s smirk faltered. “Oh, I know,” Jason replied, leaning cockily against the bar. “That was Robin, by the way. Told you I’d find him for you.”
A little choked sound escaped her lips as Mia stared at Jason incredulously. “No,” she said, disbelieving.
“Yes,” he answered as he popped open his beer. “He’s undercover. He’s always so fun during that kind of thing. Totally gets in character and everything.”
Mia blushed a little at the mental image that gave her. “If that was Robin, why’d you kiss him?” she asked dumbly.
Jason’s smirk got a little a dirty. “Because he’s actually fun this way, babe,” he said before taking a pull from his beer bottle. “And he goes with it because he doesn’t have to pretend all the time this way.”
“Pretend?” Mia asked, stirring the little swizzle stick in what was left of her rum and coke before grinning. “Oh, so that running away from you thing was him not pretending. Gotcha.”
The smirk turned into a scowl for a moment. “No,” he growled, “that’s only because he saw you.”
“Then why bring me in the first place if you were trying to get into Robin’s pants tonight?” Mia asked seriously, putting down the remnants of her drink. “You could have just told me to screw off, Jason.”
Jason took another swig of his beer. “Yeah, I could have, but I actually like you. Wasn’t gonna let you run into the Bat looking for baby bird when he’s not out there tonight,” he told her. “Anyway, I wouldn’t have gotten into Robin’s pants even without you here. He’s a bit of a prude.”
Mia snorted. “Yeah, I noticed when were Titans together,” she muttered. “So, Robin probably bolted completely, huh?”
“For now,” Jason stated as he finished off his beer. “Since your night’s gonna be a waste anyway, let’s dance.”
“What?” she questioned as she pushed herself off the barstool. “You think dancing with you would make this night worthwhile? You think pretty highly of yourself, Todd.”
Jason smirked, offering her his hand in faux show of manners. “I do, so let’s have some fun,” he replied before leaning down to whisper in her ear. “Let’s make it a game. Whoever can get the most people watching them dance wins.”
Mia snorted, pushing him away as she moves away from the bar. “No contest, you know,” she said confidently, “but if you feel like being humiliated, who am I to begrudge you that?”
Jason chuckled. “Whatever you say, Mia,” he said as the both headed out into the crowd of writing, dancing bodies.
