I don't think I'll go complete vegan myself, but who knows. If you can get free range eggs (where the hens have a field or large space to freely walk around and shit on, some hay to make a nest, etc...) and organic milk where the cows arn't tortured for their milk, then ethically speaking it isn't a big deal and you can also be reasonably sure there won't be weird chemicals in your milk and eggs.

The thing to keep in mind is that Veganism/Vegetariansm are both ideologies that are being attacked by both the dairy and meat industries. On the flip side, PETA might present misinformation about meat consumption to push their agenda. There is a lot of misinformation. Keep in mind countless countless people have been vegetarians their whole lives and they're healthy, active and happy people. You just need to imitate what they eat. If you just eat french fries and bread you'll run into problems, but if you eat a wide variety of foods, it isn't an issue. A lot of people insist "you need to eat meat" but then, again, plenty of lifelong vegetarians out there who live longer, healthier and more active lives than the BBQ king who has heart problems at 45.

You're much more knowledgeable about biology than I am, so you're probably better versed than I am in the technical aspects of all this.
