Rupaul's Drag Race Alstars 6: The Finale...

Sep 07, 2021 06:57

"I ain't never won nothing... Not anything that matters anyway."
- Sonique (Man, he crowing video on YouTube is so emotional. How she was clinging to Rajah then she jumped up in Eureka's arms... Maybe I'm just getting soft in my old age, but it made me feel rather emotional 💜💜💜)

Welp, it's over…
Gah, I'm gonna miss this season! They shoulda had a reunion. I would be so into that! Alstars 6 deserves the same love as Alstars 2. To this very day, people reference their love and why when it comes to that season and I believe Alstars 6 will (RIGHTFULLY SO) take it's spot alongside it. It only took what? Four years for them to get it right...
So… The real question is: Who won?

^Kylie Sonique Love ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Honestly, I kept bouncing between her, TKB and Raja this entire season. Which is funny to say I wasn't even gonna review the season. I didn't like the cast. Thought it was gonna be stupid. I had no interest and I was honest about it from day one. What I learned was that you should never judge a book by it's cover cuz man… I almost missed out! I'm so glad I changed my mind! I want it documented that I saw this season! I want my journal to forever reflect that I was there cuz gurl, this season was epic even with the part that still hurts (Trinity 😭😭😭) and definitely the part that brings a smile to my face (Laganja 💜💜💜)
Which, of course, shows how disconnected I was at the beginning cuz I didn't have a pick walking in. TKB wasn't my winner at first. Rajah definitely wasn't. Sonique who? Yeah, I was that person (I'm so ashamed 😭😭😭) By episode 4, I was Team TKB, Rajah and Sonique, our 1st ever 3-way tie even tho' we know damn well Drag Race ain't that generous.
But enough about how ridiculous I was. How did Sonique win?
Welp, let's unpack the episode and find out…
Not gonna lie, when Rupaul said they were writing lyrics for her new country song, (Ft. A gorgeous pink haired Tania Tucker) I was instantly wary. Need I remind you of that country song from season 10? Y'all know the one. Blair got to dance with Jason and I didn't… Speaking of Jason, I haven't seen him on Drag Race lately. Honestly, there hasn't been enough pit crew recently. I miss mini challenges!!! And since I brought up mini challenges, this episode didn't have one either.
Instead we hop right into "This Is Our Country", Rupaul's new song for the queens to write lyrics on. Again, I thought we were about to be bullshitted again, but nah. This gave me Old Town Road tease. The entire time it was playing, I kept thinking "I'm hearing what's like, two clicks from being Old Town Road and I'm at peace with that." The choreography was simple enough but that's because Jamal Sims is, well, Jamal Sims. He makes everything look simple. Except for Ginger. No amount of training was gonna turn Ginger Minj into a sex symbol… Even if the steps were coming from Jamal Sims. Just saying. *shrugs* She looked like Raina right before she goes to throw up on the floor. How she ended her verse with the back up dancers was sly tho'. I see you, Ginger. Get yours!
Next up was Eureka and damn Eureka! Say whatcha want about Eureka, she puts in that work. (Even in potato shoes 😌) The part with just her and Ginger dancing was so well done. It was crisp. Did I mention Jamal Sims choreographed this? I feel like it needs to be mentioned again. I don't care. I don't care. Fight me.
Rajah's lyrics. Rajah's picnic inspired look. (She never said that but that's what I'm saying cuz she looked like a whole snack!) Rajah is the reason I'm considering downloading this song. Sonique is the reason why I'm sure I am. Her scarf work was hot. She was hot. The part where she and Rajah dapped each other before their pair choreography was hot. Together they were just hot. Maaaaaaannnnnn, the most hilarious part was at the end, all four queens hopped up on the doors of their trucks and the move was solid but it highlighted just how short Ginger actually is 😂😂😂
Oh yeah, lemme back up since I mentioned Ginger. They all had their tic tac lunch with Rupaul and Michelle and the way they were talking about Ginger had me terrified they were gonna crown her. Shit even the little speeches and congratulations at the end had me fearing this mess. I was so scared! Luckily, as I've already spoiled, that's not what happened… I'll be damned if it didn't look like it might tho'. I was team everybody but Ginger. Why? Probably because Ginger felt so forced to me the entire season. I felt about her like I felt about Rita on Canada's Drag Race. She's great TV but something just didn't sit right, ya know? *shrugs* Maybe it's just me. I dunno.
While we wait for the fits and fashions, some real life tea:
I forgot to mention in my entry last night that Ol' Whatshisface and I also discussed how when I speak, even when I'm saying mean things, it doesn't sound that way. People laugh cuz it sounds like I'm joking whether I'm being perserious or joking. Somehow my voice manages to always sound the same. I thought it was worth highlighting cuz I've always been this way. The tone in my voice hardly ever changes. Because of high pitched it is, if it ever goes low, clear the area, save yourself! 😂😂😂
Before we unpack the performances, fits and fashions, I'm a little mad that they didn't do the final runway like they did in Alstars 5. I wanted to see everyone in their final runway! (Especially Trinity... Who knows? She might own an elegant version of that gah-awful crossing guard outfit. Now we'll never know)

^Queen (Not only is she serving us Cher realness, she looks like a Los Vegas showgirl!)

^We're doing this a little different since thanks to Bussy Queen, (One of my favorite YouTubers... Hi Bussy! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜) I have screenshots of the lyrics since as I've already said, I liked everybody's. So, you have the honor of seeing what I liked so.

^Queen (Out of everything Ginger has worn the entire season, I love this one the most! I wanna own this sooooooooo bad)

^Queen (Rajah morphed *HA!* the color purple from a movie to a moment... 💜💜💜)

^Did anybody else notice she had the most lines cuz I didn't until Bussy pointed it out

^Knight (Wait, wait... Put the pitchfork away! Allow me to explain: Yes, she looks gorgeous. My problem is, this ensemble woulda have for better in a challenge. Not the final runway. Am I saying it had to be a gown? No. Am I saying it needed to be something else? Yes! Something with a little more ooooomph!)

I love this song so much. In my eyes, Sonique won as soon as she tripped during the "Stupid Love" (Thank you, Lady Gaga) lipsync. Instead of falling flat on her face, she did an epic save and I went to cheering. As soon as it happened, I was like: "She won. The end." Sonique didn't think so. Her face when it happened in her crowing video showed that. She looked like she wanted to burst into tears. Little did she know that the rest of the internet was celebrating the hell outta it. That just goes to show how important perspective is. Her perspective was that she lost because of that. Our perspective was that she won as soon as it happened. Ya know, I like that they do the four way one at a time the merge it together now. It's easier to see what's happening. I saw some people complaining about it, but I prefer it honestly.

Final thoughts: This season was amazing! They only had one slow episode the whole way through and that's rare with Drag Race as of late. Also, if production was meddling this season, it wasn't as oblivious as season 13 or several before that. Production needs to learn from the success of this season and let the show breathe. It doesn't need all that meddling to be good. It just needs to be good, ya know?
