“Kyuhyun?”

“Hmm?”

“Nothing.”

Kyuhyun looked at Zhou Mi oddly before returning to his book. “Okay.”

-
Kyuhyun was good in making conversation-with adults, children, teenagers, people around his age and even with disabled people. That had gotten him a lot of friends and he was smug. Heechul had said to him that “no, that’s not a talent and please refrain yourself from shouting at my ears about how many friends you’ve got because, clearly, I have a lot more friends than you do,” but of course, Kyuhyun is Kyuhyun and he didn’t listen to Heechul.

It was the main problem of his situation right now. He was locked with Zhou Mi in the Science laboratory and he would appreciate if one of them could break the awkward atmosphere around them. No one had talked since Zhou Mi had borrowed Kyuhyun’s phone to call the security guard a few minutes ago, which was a failure since Zhou Mi just realized that he didn’t remember the security’s phone number.

He wasn’t supposed to be caught in an awkward silence. He was good in talking for God’s sake; why couldn’t he attempt to talk to Zhou Mi right now? He did wish, somehow, that he could take back everything he’d said earlier. Why was he replying to everything that Zhou Mi said in one word once again? Oh right; because Zhou Mi himself only asked the questions which was answerable with yes or no.

“Umm, so, what are you majoring in?” Kyuhyun asked following another ten minutes of (awkward) silence, hands fanning himself since the air conditioner was turned off.

“Fashion design,” Zhou Mi shrugged lightly. “You?”

“Music.”

“Oh, it must be fun.”

“Yeah, kind of.” Kyuhyun said as he browsed through the lab. Things were getting more boring (and awkward) and he would jump through the window if Zhou Mi wasn’t there with him. Oh, no. He couldn’t bring himself to look so boisterous in front of Zhou Mi, of course. He remembered good impressions and he was trying to make it right now.

Except for the fact it wasn’t good since they didn’t talk for another fifteen minutes.

Oh fuck that good impression.

“Umm, what are you doing?” Zhou Mi asked as he saw Kyuhyun arranging the chairs below the window to the soccer field. The sun is setting, Zhou Mi noted.

“I’m going to save both of us from this place. Who the hell turned off the air anyways?!”

“Oh, I did. We need to save energy because we didn’t really need it, did we?”

Kyuhyun, once again, wished he didn’t like Zhou Mi in the first place. He would like to shout rude things to Zhou Mi for turning off the air conditioner because he could feel his body burning as he sweat endlessly. His once white shirt now turned kind of invisible, and it would’ve been a good sight if he wasn’t showing an angry face.

Of course we needed it, dumbass. “Yeah we didn’t really need it,” Kyuhyun said, voice sounding a bit softer as he placed the chairs onto their respective place.

“Why? Aren’t you going to climb?”

“No-it’s okay. I’m heavy. Let’s just wait for the help.”

“It’s dark,” Zhou Mi warned, checking at his wristwatch. “It’s six-thirty pm. Are you sure there will be any help for us? Don’t you want to climb again?”

“No, why are you forcing me? I’m sure there will be help coming for us,” Kyuhyun said steadily although he was kind of terrified at the idea of spending a night in the science lab. Yeah, he was with Zhou Mi but that was not what he meant. What if there were ghosts in the lab?

“I can’t climb,” Zhou Mi sighed, resting his head on top of the table. “I’m afraid of heights.”

“Oh.”

They looked into each other’s eyes for a moment.

“Okay, fine,” Kyuhyun said as he re-arranged the chair below the window again before climbing on it. He reached for the windowsill with his hands before jumping and accidentally kicking the chair to fall backwards in the process. “Oh God, Zhou Mi help me!” Kyuhyun squeaked in a non-manly way. “I’m going to fall!” He shouted again, this time while flinging his legs around.

“Kyuhyun!” Zhou Mi rushed to Kyuhyun and grabbed his legs with his arms, and then carefully bringing them down to step on the floor.

Kyuhyun looked at his red palm before turning to Zhou Mi and sigh tiredly. “I think I hurt my hand. We’re going to stay here until tomorrow then. Hopefully there will be someone helping us later.”

“Oh,” Zhou Mi said, face blank. “Okay.”

Oh fuck that good impression.

-
Kyuhyun fanned himself on his way going to the bazaar in the university building. It was foundation day today; the university’s fourty-fifth anniversary and there was a big bazaar opened in the center of the big building with people selling stuff they wanted to sell. There were also band performances and dancers performing on stage. The day was big.

He just arrived in front of one of the booths when a shrieking yell caused him to cover both of his ears with his hands, dropping the food he had brought with him.

“Lai! Lai!!” Zhou Mi shouted with his Chinese accent to everyone who was walking in front of his stand. “Steamed buns and other Chinese food here with cheap price! Lai, lai!!”

Kyuhyun walked to the source of the voice and immediately regretted his action because Zhou Mi was shouting at his ear now. Did he wish that he didn’t like Zhou Mi before? Because now he really wanted to tell Zhou Mi to shut up. The bazaar was not his alone and he could also see some of the sellers getting pissed at him. Not to mention that some of the buyers were also disturbed like he was.

“Zhou Mi, tone down the noise!” Kyuhyun warned him.

“Okay,” Zhou Mi agreed easily before pulling Kyuhyun to his stand. “What would you like to buy?”

“Did I say I wanted to buy something from you?”

“Not really, but I know you wanted to. Don’t be shy, the items I sell are cheap! Umm, wait for a minute,” Zhou Mi said as he turned his back to Kyuhyun. “Hangeng ge! Please serve that customer, I have one to handle here, thanks!” Wait, what? Customer? Why did it sound so wrong in Kyuhyun’s ears? “Okay where are we? Oh, yes! C’mon, buy one! The steamed buns are delicious. There’s the one with pork, or do you prefer green beans instead? We have the one with chicken too!” Zhou Mi promoted excitedly, causing Kyuhyun to lose his heart to reject the offers.

“I’ll buy the one with the pork. How much is it?”

Zhou Mi paused for a while, looking at Hangeng to check that he was too busy to observe at what he was doing or going to do. He faced Kyuhyun back again and place the steamed bun Kyuhyun wanted inside a small paper bag.

“Here!” Zhou Mi grinned and shoved the paper bag to Kyuhyun. “It’s free for you!”

To be honest, Kyuhyun was touched because Zhou Mi gave him the steamed buns for free although he knew Zhou Mi should also gain profit to cover all of the capital expenses. He knew and he tried to refused and paid for it but he didn’t. He stared at the paper bag instead, there was a heart drawn there, probably by Zhou Mi to make the paper bag look more pretty.

“Thanks, I’ll see you around, kay?”

“Okay, bye!”

Kyuhyun was ready to go to another food stand when he changed his mind and went back to Zhou Mi’s stand.

“Hey!” Zhou Mi greeted him whilst trying to serve the buyers. “Did you forget something?”

“No,” Kyuhyun stated simply as he removed his jacket. “I’ll help you.”

“Oh,” Zhou Mi said, face blank again. “Okay!” And then he beamed.

Kyuhyun helped Zhou Mi and Hangeng for the whole day until the bazaar was closed. He didn’t get the chance to look around all the stands, but so did Hangeng, Zhou Mi, and all of the other sellers. So really, he couldn’t care less about it.

And he just realized that for five hours serving all of the buyers, he hadn’t seen any paper bag with a heart on it except for the one Zhou Mi gave him.

Kyuhyun smiled.

-
“Let me hold that for you,” Zhou Mi said for the umpteenth time. He shivered slightly as the cold breeze of air passed and ruffled his hair, the tiny droplets of water hitting some of his body.

“No,” Kyuhyun said stubbornly.

“But that was the sixth time you hit me with that-ouch!” Zhou Mi rubbed the spot in his head which was hit. “-umbrella, dammit. Just let me hold it.”

“N-hey!” Kyuhyun hit Zhou Mi’s arm lightly. “That’s unfair! I want to hold it!” He tried to reach for the umbrella, but was held high in Zhou Mi’s tight grip now.

“Ha, next time, Kyuhyun. Until you grow taller than me,” Zhou Mi grinned. Kyuhyun wondered since when did Zhou Mi have that kind of personality which was supposed to be his and since when did Zhou Mi learn how to grin.

“Heh,” Kyuhyun snorted and was ready to reply to what Zhou Mi said with his usual kind-of-rude replies but decided against it as he felt Zhou Mi wrapping his arm around his shoulder. “Okay.”

And finally. Finally, there was silence without awkward.
