I get it, I get it! You don’t like the “those guys are doing it on purpose” feeling (laughs)
Yabu: Yup, here it is, Wink Up’s “YabuHika” fans.
Yaotome: It’s the word we dislike (laughs). What should we do now? … Or rather, we became frequently called “YabuHika”, and we both started to become conscious of it.
Yabu: Right, right. I talked about this in Wink Up before, but in concerts and such, I leave him on purpose (laughs). When I pass by Hikaru on the walkway across the audience, I don’t dare to high-five him. Also, if I walk a little faster, even though I can catch up with Hikaru who’s in front of me and I can hug his shoulders and say “Whee”, I don’t do it. I know the fans who like YabuHika will absolutely say “Kyaa-“, but I don’t do it (laughs).
Yaotome: I get it, I get it! You don’t like the “those guys are doing it on purpose” feeling (laughs). If this was someone like Inoo-chan, it would be absolutely okay (laughs). But when I high five Yabu and stuff, and people think that it’s like a “special thing”, I kind of don’t like it. How should I say this… If I talk a bit to a girl I’m not conscious of at all and the people around go “Hyu- Hyu-“… that kind of feeling? (laughs)
Yabu: More than what the people around are thinking, we have mixed feelings (laughs).
Yaotome: Somehow, up until we got called YabuHika, we normally got along well. We always went to the convenience store together, “Yabu’s buying cheese? Then I’ll buy cheese too!” and stuff like that.
Yabu: We were really clingy. “Let’s go take a bath together!” and stuff. Somehow recently, when we talk with the same energy like in the old days, we get seen with a “Oh, it’s YabuHika” point of view.
Yaotome: Right, right! But when I get asked “Are you close?”, I don’t know how I should answer. Honestly we’re not “super duper” close, but we don’t have a bad relationship. It’s not a “we’re close friends ♪” kind of feeling.
Yabu: That’s right. Unlike in the past, we don’t chit-chat, we almost don’t hang out in private at all, but in the end it is certain that you’re a “special partner”. Although I can say this because today the members aren’t around (laughs).
Yaotome: If this was a BEST talk, you wouldn’t say it even if you will die (laughs). Maybe this is what they call a bond… maybe that can be said. If someone were to say bad things about Yabu, I think I would be really angry, I think these thoughts will convey to my partner.
Yabu: Me too. I think I would say, “What do you know about Hikaru, to be saying that?” and interfere.
Yaotome: Before, when my mother saw me and Yabu, she said, “Your atmosphere feels like a couple that’s been married for ten years.”, right? (laughs)
Yabu: Well, I don’t send messages on Hikaru’s birthday, though (laughs). Even though in the past I would properly send it. Even this point, it’s like a couple that’s been married for many years (laughs).
Yaotome: As a couple, for example, in terms of personality I am completely be the wife, and Yabu is the husband type.
Yabu: I agree. Hikaru is dainty… Or rather, compared to the past, hasn’t Hikaru become high-strung?
Yaotome: A~ that might be it! I like being clean, and I tend to be a little bit of a neat-freak. I easily get colds, maybe that’s why I’m concerned with that. If I open a plastic bottle and leave it behind for a long time, somehow I get concerned. (laughs)
Yabu: When Hikaru’s condition becomes bad, an aura of “My condition is bad!” comes out from his entire body. (laughs) I don’t get concerned at all! When I realize my condition is bad, I feel just the same, so it’s like I drive it away with good energy. Also, I gulp down a two-liter bottle of water just as it is, and return it to the refrigerator.
Right, right, right! There were around 30 in your cap?
Yaotome: Yabu really has a lot of interests, and they’re the complete opposite of mine. Speaking of which, when Yabu was little he was more grouchy than he is now, isn’t he?
Yabu: The “Prickly Yabu” era, right? (laughs) Although there are times when it comes out once in a while.
Yaotome: It’s not like in the past. “(hands on his hips) Because I’m a genius child actor! I don’t need stuff like explanations!”, you gave out this kind of aura. (laughs)
Yabu: Really? I never felt that way, though (laughs)
Yaotome: Because Yabu, even until now, does things like show explanations with all his might. I think, “O~ he’s an adult.”
Yabu: In reality, I’m an adult (laughs). Ever since Hikaru was a kid, he’s the the type that gets addicted to one thing and immerses himself in it. I think that part of him hasn’t changed until now. Although recently it’s drawing and music and such.
Yaotome: When I was an elementary student, it was “collecting tin badges” and stuff, right? (laughs)
Yabu: Right, right, right! There were around 30 in your cap?
Yaotome: No, no, it put on around 100. Any kind was alright , so generally speaking, I wanted tin badges.
Yabu: That’s why I gave Hikaru the Verdy (T/N: A Japanese professional football club) tin badges that were in our house.
Yaotome: I added too much, and my cap was entirely covered in tin badges, that even though it was a cap, it was super heavy (laughs). (Imai) Tsubasa-kun who was behind me told me, “I got surprised~. I thought you pinned tin badges directly onto your head.” (laughs) I’m the type who gets addicted and goes to that extent.
Yabu: That part still remains until now. It’s like the married couple from awhile ago, but within JUMP, your position is like that too.
Yaotome: Right. It’s feels like I’m a lecturing mom? (laughs)
Yabu: Right. You scold our members, right? When you do that, from behind I’ll say “Oo~i, are you doing it properly~?”, and poke and make fun of them while grinning. Isn’t that like a father and a mother, too? (laughs)
Yaotome: That’s right. Including the part where after that, I’ll say “Dad, don’t spoil them too much!” and scold Yabu, right? (laughs) Yabu is good. I’m a nagging, noisy mom! (laughs)
Yabu: Hahaha! When I mess around with Keito or Dai-chan, Hikaru will pat me and start saying “Alright, you’re noisy!”. Absolutely like a father getting scolded by mom (laughs)
Yaotome: I’m begging you, dad! I say it because it’s that kind of opportunity, though. Before, you taught me a shop where there’s a delicious drink, right? Next time, take me to that shop.
Yabu: Aa, that’s totally okay. Recently, the two of us haven’t gone out to eat and such. I want to properly invite Hikaru to my house. Lately, including my other friends, they’ve dropped by for a visit for a little, but only for about ten minutes.
Yaotome: Right~. Although you only bring out iced water. (laughs)
Yabu: I want to be a bit better at being hospitable (laughs). Well, up to the point where we play video games, though.
Yaotome: That kind of ordinary feeling is good. Going to a male friend’s house, the feeling of ordinarily bonding as guys. Also “What kind of girl is your type?” and such, that kind of love talk, and talking about work is good too.
Yabu: That’s good, that’s good~. It’s been a long time since we did a talk, but it was ordinarily fun.
Yaotome: Right. Then the continuation of this talk will be the shop Yabu will take me to, or after that we’ll talk at Yabu’s house!

This probably the longest interview I’ve translated to date! Whew! But their conversation was really interesting, and it gave me a better understanding of their relationship, so it was worth the effort. I hope you guys can enjoy this crosstalk too!
