Wow I'm on a posting roll this month.
BUT THIS WEEK'S ONE PIECE. <333333
Uh right, before that, actually this week's Shounen Jump was all pretty decent. (My bars for Naruto and Bleach are set pretty low, mind.)
1. Naruto: I really like the underlying structure behind this particular chapter, but I'll be honest, I had a really hard time following what was actually happening in the last few pages. (And the way it slots into the overall narrative is still pretty dumb so whatever.) Mostly I was just happy to have so much screen, er, pagetime for the only character I still actively like in the series, doing Competent Things. Nice knowing ya.
2. Bleach: For once an asspull that.... actually makes a lot of sense in hindsight. (Still an asspull though, and an obvious excuse to design moar tokusatsu fashion.)
Now can we has Rukia doing stuff?????

OMG REBECCA. CAVENDISH. AHHHH.
So there was this absurd fan theory flying around over break that the one who knocked everyone out was either disguised!Kaido or one of Kaido's subordinates + something something Haki.
I am SO glad Oda is a much better writer than his fans. XD
- Rebecca continuing to be badass in her own unique way = <3!!!
- Cavendish having a Jekyll and Hyde thing going on -- did not see that coming, and it is somehow the most awesome thing ever. I wonder if he's conscious of his other half?
- My shipper senses are SCREAMING. I was already really pleased to see Cavendish's respect for Rebecca in earlier chapters, but I am on the brink of seriously SHIPPING THEM.
- Speaking of ships, I'm also quietly sitting here shipping Sabo/Koala although we've barely even seen anything of them yet. XD
(I don't know what it is about this arc that's bringing out all my SHIPPER FEELS, considering the only hardcore OTP I've had for 700+ chapters is, uh, Vivi/Kohza.)
- Rebecca's survival can be read in a few ways, all of which I think are great/potentially interesting. One is that she's really genuinely just that dodgy. Other being that "Hakuba" only targets those with killing/harming intent, which it's already been established Rebecca's fighting style completely avoids. Or a combination of both reasons. Plus other possibilities.
- Speaking of which, part of me really hopes the official English translation of Hakuba is Pale Horse lol. (but I'm guessing they kept it as Hakuba.) Dammit OP, I'm seriously thinking of subscribing to Viz's digital mag now...
- Rommel Kingdom? OP references aren't always significant, but I wonder about this one a bit.
- Dofla being smart = yay (we haven't really seen an intelligent villain of this sort since Croco, who I STILL MISS JUST SAYING). I LOVE that despite not "underestimating" them unlike everyone else... he's still pretty much missing the point. (Which is that Luffy is the ultimate wild card. Expect NOTHING to go according to plan. XD) Plus him taking Sogeking seriously is just amazing.
- I am so excited for Sabo vs. Rebecca. For serious. It's so clever from a writing standpoint too -- instead of having only one obvious candidate to cheer for, we now have two people pitted against each other that we're meant to like/care about/support, both of whom have very valid, personal reasons for wanting the fruit, and EEEEEEE. (Even Luffy vs Rebecca wouldn't have had the same impact since you know Luffy very well may have decided to give it to her anyway if he decided he liked her enough.)
- And Violaaaaaaaaaa. Can't wait until we get a Viola/Rebecca scene. (WE'D BETTER GET ONE.)
