And yet somehow I am still shocked

Korra episode #what is it on now? ("The Sting"):

Some part of me was still holding out hope, but in this episode the writers pull out ALL THE CLICHES (Standard Plot A + Standard Plot B + Standard Plot C) and my god, I didn't think the writing in this show would ever get quite this bad, but it just did. (It's not even a pastiche of the various genres/tropes they're pulling from. It's just BAD.)

... I'm actually a little heartbroken.

14 Blades

Doing casual research for another thing (I have creative ADD) -- figured I might as well watch this since it's technically relevant and has been on my watch list for a while.

And really, it's basically a stereotypical Western, except set in Ming Dynasty China (i.e. the plot is terrible and the dialogue/characterization is even worse). But the action scenes are fairly cool (except for the one CG gimmick which was pretty MEH).

I enjoyed it but laughed my ass off at the costuming (trench coats and sombreros. DAT BOX. actually fairly subtly done instead of as campy as it could have been, BUT STILL). Also one of the characters is a Jack Sparrow clone and it's frankly embarrassing to watch.

Oh right and it comes complete with an unsurprising troll ending.

Speaking of Terrible Things: I cannot believe how

1. shamelessly repetitive the past few months of Naruto has been

(Naruto's always been pretty shameless about its brainless circular reasoning and logic fail but AHEM)

(Sadly, I actually like the 2nd Hokage, who is possibly the only reason I haven't given up in disgust for the 230958th time. Ughhhhh.)

2. Ditto Bleach. I wish Kubo would switch up his battle patterns because it's really all so scripted and predictable. Like, not even the characters/emotions are saving it at this point. He should have ended the damn series a long time ago and started something new, but commercial success blah blah blah sure, we're finally on the final arc but how many more years of this am I going to put up with at this rate?

3. How shamelessly fanservicey Fairy Tail has gotten. Hey, even as a chick, I actually enjoy/don't mind fanservice (especially when it's fairly equal-opportunity, as it has been in this series), but the last couple of chapters, like, wow. When it starts getting in the way of actual plot, it's really not amusing anymore.

.... I feel like the only reason I still keep up with Naruto/Bleach after all these years is to bitch about them. XD Honestly I should just drop them and read the ending a few years from now (like I ultimately did with Inuyasha). But.... can't.... stop.... (Wish I could blame it on habit or trainwreck syndrome but. umm.)

On the bright side, I don't understand how One Piece can be so stupid/ridiculous and yet have such tight writing. I really don't get it. It's so great though. Seriously, OP has more plot in a single page than several chapters of Naruto. Reading it makes me feel so much better every week after reading yet more nonsense from the other two series. o_o

I was going to check out Samurai Flamenco.... but then I realized I just plain didn't care. (Wake me up again when winter season rolls around, I guess.)
