Let me record, before I forget some of the highlights of last week.

I'm pretty happy Amy and Sara were able to go to a lecture by Elie Weisel. He's a halocaust survivor and a famous author of the book "Night", professor and nobel peace prize laureate (his introduction, which listed all his accomplishments was a lot longer and mind boggling. He peppered his speech which called for greater respect and greater world wide condemnation of the Iranian's president to wipe out Israel, with humorous anecdotes. He used one of the ones I liked to illustrate the importance of discussion in Jewish tradition. He said something like:

"It's a Jewish tradition at a wedding to always say the bride is beautiful and gracious. Beautiful and gracious, beautiful and gracious, that's the phrase we always use. Well one time someone said: 'what if she's neither? In that case, I believe the truth comes before tradition and nothing should be said'
Someone else responded, 'no. even if she's neither, we should still call her beautiful and gracious because the happiness of the bride comes before the truth.'

I think the paternal chivalry in this anecdote made me happy.

Also, Friday night was fleeting but great. We used the first night of our long reading week just to hang out and have fun. At Fanny's house we strung up popcorn and decorated a beautiful fake christmas tree (those are so dear to me, since they save real trees from being thrown out each year). We also eventually made our way to Hollywood video to rent the Breakfast Club and two other movies we didn't have time for. We had a good time laughing at the melodramaticness of the 70s teens in the so called "classic" Breakfast Club.

Later we had an interesting talk about things we didn't know about each other which involved all sorts of racy bits about highschool, sex, sexual orientation, fears, body parts, how weight loss affects men and women differently :p, and bras. I definitely revealed somethings I hadn't told many other people.

It didn't stop there...I'm glad everyone had more energy to play Hoopla (one of the many spin offs of Cranium) for an excellent number of rounds. And Nancy's delicious twist on ramen noodles was just right too. She made pancakes with berries and whip cream for us the next morning too. Aw...good and willing cooks are always appreciated. mmmm

I'll be finally taking my driver's test on january 8th!!!! there's plently of time to practice. And I do enjoy this week lull we have before finals.
