A “Maniac Quiz” to get to know Yamashita Shoon
Rokushiki Ou?! (King of 6 Knowledge)

Shoon, who always gives interesting answers (?) in the variety show, Hyakushiki Ou (Fuji TV). This month, just like in Hyakushiki Ou, we enthusiastically go deep into the topic of Shoon!

1 My name came from _____.
A: Sean Penn & Sean Connery

My name came from the world-famous actors Sean Penn and Sean Connery. My mother, who loves movies, gave it to me. People from other countries remember my name easily, and I like it. In elementary school, my nicknames were “Yama-chan”…ah, at one point, I was called “Mayopurio” and “Mayo”! I don’t know where that came from, I remember it because it strangely didn’t make sense (laughs).

2 Fights with my younger brother Reon start because of _____.
A: Shoon

We fight occasionally. That’s because he’s really careless! He treats the clothes and bags I lend him roughly. He throws them on the bed or the sofa and leaves them there. Well, usually, I josh him and pin his arms behind his back, then Reon gets angry, something like that. But, Reon is really big-hearted, so he forgets about it quickly~.

3 I often go on _____ with my brother.
A: Dates

I often go out with Reon. Together, we go for karaoke, shopping, watch movies, visit cafes…are we lovers?! (laughs) If Reon would hurry up and turn 20, we can go and have a drink together…am I his father?! (laughs)

4 I actually have a strong ____.
A: Sense for the supernatural

I actually have a strong sense for the supernatural. I wake up in the morning covered in blood…that was a dream I frequently had. It was especially bad during West Side Story (2004). I would feel a chill when it came to a certain scene. At the hotel too, somehow, I would feel a presence. Matsumoto (Jun)-kun who was in the same show seemed to have felt the same. So, the staff told us to place salt piles at the entrances of the dressing room and hotel rooms, but that seemed more terrifying… After placing the salt piles, wouldn’t that mean that the other spirits that were originally there won’t be able to leave? That’s why we only placed a salt pile in the dressing room. I got through it by tossing my stuff around the hotel room and making my own (spiritual) barrier (?) as a substitute.

5 I’m a _____ maniac.
A: Tea

As shown by the tea-tasting in the Shounen Club, I love tea! If I come across a café that serves rare tea, I get excited. I guess I’ll recommend “Honey Vanilla” to duet readers. As in the name, if you add honey to vanilla-flavoured tea, the tea itself becomes a sweet treat ♪

6 Recently, I’ve been addicted to making _____
A: Leather bags

Once I get addicted to something, I want to get deep into it. Recently, it’s making leather bags. In half a year, I’ve made 5 bags, a wallet, a belt and a bracelet. Recently, it’s come to the stage where the leather shop gives me a call when it brings in good leather (laughs). Next is maturing of jeans. I enjoy the transition of wearing my jeans to the broken-in stage. Jeans are living objects, you know. Even if you wear them carefully, you don’t always get nice creases on them. But that’s why they are interesting. If I get a chance, I would like to try making them, starting from dyeing the cloth ♪
