And we will stand in the light, we will stand in the light, you and I, we can bring back the light

You know, there was a whole bunch of stuff I was going to post on my next update, about how I've been busy and a number of things I noticed during my most recent semi-hiatus from online socializing. But, forget all that, because Children of An Elder God just updated and it's marked as the final chapter!

You may not be familiar with it but Children of an Elder God is one of the oldes, possibly even THE oldest, Lovecraft-Evangelion fusion fanfics. And that's an idea that seems extremely natural once one has been introduced to it.
It's also really good.
Oh it's not without flaw, it name drops a bit much in the first chapter for example, but that's common with Mythos stories written by latecomers, even the published.
It's the first fanfic I read that made me think they could be written at a professional level, that these writings could be taken seriously.
And since it's a collaboration piece between two fairly talented authors, one of whom dropped off the internet a long time ago, it's been sitting unfinished for SEVEN YEARS since the last update.
The remaining author has been writing other projects, including a decent 'next-generation' Mai Hime story that has reality growing less rigid as other gods strive to replace the Obsidian King as ruler of the universe (remember, his cultists all claimed he kept the world running smoothly) and monsters start creeping in from other dimensions.
But, out of nowhere, comes chapter 24, something I'd despaired of ever seeing:

It's like someone suddenly started making more of one of your favorite shows from when you were a kid- Not some crappy remake, the original with the same writers and actors somehow preserved in time. Nostalgia is so thick you can taste it.

Oh, the first 23 chapters are here:

Now I have some reading to do.
