It's a very chilling but compelling read. The historical parallels the author draws are effective and the attention paid to details makes the story very vivid. Snape is carefully handled, and while the diary sections didn't work for me as I have a hard time imagining him with a journal, his tone and attitude were certainly spot-on. Perhaps the clincher for me with this story was the ending. I don't want to give anything away, but the parallels to certain events in canon and the way the author handled Romilda Vane is striking.
