Good News/Bad News

Bad news: Went to pick up my laptop from Sony this morning. Dad said they'd quoted a $500 repair, so I was pretty much assuming unless it was something I could call bullshit on costing that much that I was going to be in the market for a new laptop sooner rather than later. Buggeration. Dad was wrong. Quote was for a $1200 repair (!! *FALLS OVER*) So, uh, yeah. Not being funded by a Jacksonian crime syndicate, I can't afford to resuscitate Miles. :/

On the up side, I am 99.9% sure that I have all the hard drive backed up - I pulled the text files after we got back from Australia, and they were really all that I'd have been worried about, but... I was SO CLOSE to being out of debt! Grrrr. So, um, suggestions appreciated for brands/models to look for/avoid. I have been thinking that, realistically, I primarily work on the desktop and the laptop is mostly for when I'm mobile, so I don't actually need a big screen/large storage space; I just need something with wireless, ability to run basic word-processing, and the occasional video file. Having a battery that lasts longer than half an hour would be amazing, too. (Not that I am caving, but I did think about the Air for a minute. And then I saw the list price and promptly went back to PC. :D)

Good news: Went shopping after that, and even though I am under strict orders from people who I totally obey to get red shoes to go with my dress... all the red shoes I saw were fugly or uncomfortable, and then I found really cute black heels for $30 today only, so... I bought them. They are my backup plan shoes! I figure if I find other red shoes in the mean time then I have super-dressy shoes now at least. (If it didn't mean schlepping to the US to wear them for like five hours or something I would totally be wearing them to Jacque's (sic).) And since I know some of you guys are into the shoe porn,

They're actually really comfortable, too. Which is cool. For some reason, I've always been able to walk in heels (despite my lack of a) balance and b) any especially girly-girl genes full stop) and I can still walk in these fine, too. As I just said to R, a terrible part of me kind of really enjoys wandering around blithely in 3 inch heels while being, y'know, me. :D

And, for the record, this is the dress - my charming horde of fangirls helped me find it last week and then made encouraging noises, *hearts them* - although I am only showing it on the hangar because I am kind of DDDDD: right now about, well, clothes. It's a halterneck and surprisingly cute on. I like it, anyhow.

I'm not actually sure if the shoes do go, but they're better than any other options I've seen yet, and my mother says they do (and she would know faaaaaaar more than I would, hee).

woe, shopping, shoes, wedding
