[Video/Action for people in Olivine City]
[Today, Athrun challenged Jasmine, leader of the Olivine City Gym. The PokéGear was set up to broadcast the battle.
It was clear that Athrun knew what he was doing from the opening bell. Jasmine sent out Skarmory, and Athrun sent out his Rotom, Gungnir. Due to the type advantage and the difference in levels, Gungnir was able to easily fell Skarmory.
Jasmine followed up by sending out Magneton who, after dodging a Shadow Ball, paralyzed Gungnir. Athrun called Gungnir back and sent out Jachin Due, who quickly brought Magneton down -- after shrugging off a Magnet Bomb -- with Earthquake.
Finally, Jasmine sent out her Steelix. It landed a critical hit with Iron Tail, knocking Jachin Due out. So Athrun sent out Aegis -- his Kingler.]
Just keep it up, Aegis! Crabhammer!
Soften the blow, Steelix! Use Sunny Day!
[Just as Aegis walloped Steelix with its pincer -- accompanied by a blast of water -- the sunlight grew intense, cutting Crabhammer's power in half.]
Even with half its strength, Crabhammer's still our best bet! Hit it again!
Steelix, counter it with Slam!
[Pincer meets tail, and Steelix proves to have more force behind its attack. Aegis is knocked into the wall and slides down, where it collapses. Athrun calls Aegis back.]
Go, Buster!
[Athrun throws another ball, and this time a Magmar emerges. However, it's pretty clear that it's a good bit weaker than Jasmine's Steelix.]
At that level...? Please...call your Magmar back. I don't want to have to hurt a Pokémon whose level is that low because you're too desperate.
No. Jasmine, I wouldn't have even sent Buster out if I didn't believe he could win. After all, as of right now, this is checkmate.
What...? What are you talking about?
A few things. First, while your Steelix is strong in several fields, speed isn't one of them. It's slow -- slower even than a Magmar. Second, it's part Steel, so it's weak against fire.
And third. Right now, because of the weather, all fire attacks have double their usual strength. You lost this battle the moment you used Sunny Day!
Oh, no! Steelix, get away!
It's not fast enough! Buster, let's finish this! FLAMETHROWER!
[Steelix tried to get out of the way, but just as Athrun said, it was too slow. Flamethrower hit Steelix straight on, and after writhing in agony for a few seconds, it fell to the ground, unconscious. The last thing the feed captured before it faded out was Jasmine calling Steelix back into its Poké Ball.]
[Fifteen minutes later, Athrun makes another broadcast, this time holding up a new badge:
I did it! This makes my fifth badge. And not only that, but I also won the hidden machine that teaches Surf!
