Apathy of the Heart
The heart is overplayed in this romantic world.
“It is the key to humanity!” the masses cry out.
It will bring the world together,
And end all the hunger,
And loneliness
Or so I am told.
A warmness surrounds the coveted heart.
“It’s true love!” coos the wisest men of all.
The heart guides us to contentment,
Its love makes us whole,
And beautiful
Or so I am told.
The heart will bring a weary man purpose.
“It’s the hope that we need!” he thinks.
It gives him unknown strength,
To not just give up,
And march on
Or so he is told.
Yet the heart holds but one true skill.
“It inspires us all!” the hopefuls claim.
But when the lights go out,
And nobody is looking,
It simply beats
Or so I have found.
Worst. Poem. Ever.
