I don't have too many friends here on LiveJournal, but I was hoping what little bunch I did have wouldn't mind lending me a hand and seeing how far this goes

I honestly have the crappiest taste in music in terms of what I listen to, but I have some mainstream stuff that people generally like as a whole so \o/
I'll leave out my depressing and disturbing metal stuff, though.
Jason Mraz, I'm Yours. Singer-songwriter, generally upbeat and optimistic if fairly quirky. Song for a Friend is my absolute favorite, but also 9-12 minutes long depending on version/live.
Vienna Teng, Eric's Song. Another singer-songwriter type, she's more melancholy in a lot of her songs without being outright depressing. It was really, really hard to choice a song for her, because she has a ton of really good ones. I also recommended Harbor, Atheist Christmas Carol, Nothing Without You, Enough To Go By, Anna Rose, Unwritten Letter
Nerina Pallot, Sophia. Similar to Vienna Teng, a little sadder. I only know this song, but I really really like it and it is the only English song currently chilling in my YT list. Except that is totally a lie, I also really like Learning to Breathe

Perhaps, but my not-mainstream (and crappy taste) is pretty much bad jpop and kpop, which are not English. Obviously. So I can't link them here

I can't get into oldies for one reason or another, with a few random exceptions that don't come to mind at the moment. I'm not sure what it is about them but I think they don't have enough... impact? For me. It might just be a product of the age and the recording technology.
Edit: Oh, I was gonna mention this last time but forgot and there doesn't seem to be an edit posts button for replies but I thoroughly enjoyed the Vienna Teng and Nerina Pallot songs! Thanks muchly. And Jason Mraz is one of the few English artists that I'm at least passingly familiar with, surprisingly. I quite love "You and I Both" from him.
