Conquering Lake Zorinsky!

I've run at Lake Zorinsky [some people call it Zorinsky Lake] twice if you don't count today. The first time was a very beautiful day last summer/fall when Brynn was working for Melinda and I didn't have anything better to do. I ran like 3 miles I think. Then Brynn, Cam, and I went out on a dreary Saturday and I sucked it up. If I had to recount my worst runs [how I felt] I would go back to that one and the half marathon. It was horrible. I eschewed the place ever since. Well yesterday Brynn and I were trying to decide where to have our weekly long run and almost simultaneously we each suggested Lake Zorinsky! I was dreading it since I had such a bad experience there the last time. I put on my HRM strap and declared that I would not exceed 165 bpm! I told the other two that if they had to leave me behind that I was okay with that [as long as I held the keys!]. So we plodded along for probably 2km and I was around 140-145, then Cam found me out and said we needed to pick up the pace. After that I stayed mostly between 155-162. I felt really good the whole time and could have probably pushed a little harder but I wasn't going to exeed my pre-set limit. I was more concerned with the distance than the pace at the time. We ran a full 10-K [as full as Cam's iPod could measure accurately anyway] in less than 1:05 [okay we paused for the break at the drinking fountain]. That may seem slow, but two weeks ago that was my goal for the River Run. Funny things happen when you get serious about your training! I can't wait to go back to the lake now :)
