So I voted today, my absentee ballot hadn't come in the mail yet, so I figured I needed to just suck it up and get in line. I got there at a little before 8, and the polls opened at 8:30 - the line at fifteen minutes to 8 snaked around the library lobby and then as my luck would have it, myself and the four other people in front of me but outside of the roped off area were ushered outside to wait. I left the polling place at 10:00AM. On the way to my car a woman with a grocery bag full of buttons stopped me. My button says "I voted early for Kerry Edwards". I opted for yes on all but 2 of the amendments, and I was saddened that I was out of the district for one of the Congress seats.
Several people who spotted me with my button stopped to chat - mostly saying how they hoped this election went better than the last. I heard some guy at the polling place this morning, as he walked by, say about the crowd that was building this morning "people started to realize their vote really mattered" and a guy a few spots behind me in line, while on the phone with mom said "If you vote for him I'm going to come by and slash your tires." I gave him the benefit of the doubt, and assumed he was talking about Bush.
