Yesterday I got up very early with the intention of tackling the Grand Palace, the Emerald Budda, the Reclining Budda, etc., all on my own, but then I was like, THAT'S NUTS, so I decided to book a tour through my hotel. A brilliant idea! I got to see all the major sights while riding around in an airconditioned van. For some reason it almost never occurs to me to go on tours when I am traveling, I am used to just wandering around myself. Taking a tour was so much better- not only did I get so see a lot of the sights, but our cute tour guide "Jane" also gave historical information about what we saw.
I chatted a little bit with Jane, and she was telling me about the special deals for Thai residents that are going on right now to encourage them to travel more. She told me that the Thais general don't like to travel. The reasons? It's too stressful and too much work. Also, she said, the Thais must eat fish sauce and chilis for every meal, and they are not avaiable in most countries.
I have definetly found the keys to surviving in Bangkok and not letting it make you crazy:
1. Guided tours of the city.
2. Electrolyte powder- you sweat a lot here!
Tonight at 7pm I will take a train/ferry to Khao Tao. I will arrive there tomorrow at 8am.
