Getting ready for vacation and other fun things

I have a lovely pile of clothes on the bed, some of which will need a quick visit by the iron before they go in the suitcase. No, if they've packed properly they won't need to be ironed again when they arrive at their destination. I have to forage about for a plastic bag to put my toiletries in. Should really have saved the one from last time I flew. Maybe I've got a ziplock freezer bag in the pantry that will do the trick. Must also pour some of the LUSH stuff (shampoo, conditioner) into smaller LUSH bottles that I save for traveling. Find my sandals.

Travel insurance was purchased today. Did the multi-trip option this time, since I've also got trips to Las Vegas and Vail planned for this year. The math makes so much sense for doing it this way. It's usually around $39/trip for single trip insurance. 39 x 3 vs $80 for unlimited trips for 1 year. And the second is for enhanced coverage, not just medical/emergency stuff.

Leaving here at 2:45 on Wednesday. Not arriving in San Antonio until 11:31 pm thanks to a nearly 4 hour stopover at Newark. Oh yay. At least I'll get a chance to sit and eat a real dinner if I wish.

I probably didn't update after the Oscars. I hold the generally unpopular view that Hurt Locker didn't deserve Best Picture. Don't get me wrong. It's a good movie. A good war movie. Is it realistic? Not even f**king close. Very clearly those who keep billing it as "an authentic war movie" know shit about the military. People I know who have been in the military or know enough about its workings hold the same view - it's a decent war movie and nothing more.

Chris seems intent on making sure I can handle all the weekday openings at work. This means I've been getting the Monday opening shifts. Not really so bad except for 2 things. A) I suck at math, especially first thing in the morning, and B) why is my shift always with our newest staff member who needs me called to front so often that it makes resetting the New Release wall a much more time consuming chore that it should be? Last week's wall was a relatively easy one since there weren't massive amounts of any title coming out this week. Next week's will prove more challenging. And more time consuming. And even more time consuming when I have to keep running back to the cash for the third week in a row.

I'm looking at it this way. I have a Saturday evening on call shift that is an 80% chance of my staying home. I work Sunday and Monday opening shifts and a Tuesday closing shift. Then I get to hop on a plane and visit with amandageist and family, kelleyscorpio and utkari02. Does it get any better? Well, yeah, it does because I will also get my fix of chicken fried steak. :D

Still have 5 movies to watch before Monday morning, too. Would have been 5 but New Moon put me to sleep in the first 20 minutes. I'll give it one more try. If it puts me to sleep again it gets relegated to the 'unwatchable' list for my customers.
