The interests chosen for me by
velvetfascism are:
Abstract expressionism: I love various types of art. I think I get it from my mother, who actually studied art for a while (though she's unable to draw or paint now for medical reasons). Anyway, I never really used to like abstract art that much--I was always drawn to the more traditional styles--but I was actually doing some research into a particular artist, and that led me to abstract expressionism. There's an incredible amount of freedom and emotion present in these pieces, and that's why I like it.
Ben Browder: Well, on the shallow end, I have to say that he's gorgeous. But more than that, he's really a talented actor, and I love the addition of Cameron Mitchell to Stargate: SG-1. I actually like Mitchell more than I like John Crichton. :o Also, his accent melts me.
Captain Jack Harkness: He's one of my favorite characters of all time. Despite his gimmicky immortality, which I complain about frequently, he's still a dynamic character with a complex backstory. I was hooked on his character from my very first episodes ("Small Worlds" and "Countrycide"). I love that the writers go against the grain with him--he's not dating the leading lady; he's incredibly flawed; he openly shows emotion.
Ghost Hunters: For those unfamiliar with Ghost Hunters, it's a documentary series on Sci-Fi that follows two ghost-hunting plumbers and their team as they investigate sites purported to be haunted. One of the things I like about these guys is that although they've had paranormal in the past and totally believe in and want to prove that ghost exist, they approach cases as debunkers. They use science (and sometimes good old fashioned problem-solving) to try and disprove hauntings. Plus, Jay and Grant are totally cute and coupley.
Horror films: I love horror films and have since I was a kid. These might be old school slasher films like Halloween or Friday 13th or they might be psychological horror films like Skeleton Key or The Others.
Star Wars: This was one of my first fandoms, and I used to restlessly follow the articles in sci-fi magazines between movies. My favorite characters were Han Solo, Chewie, C3P0, and Wedge. I cried when Han was frozen, I cried when Leia told him she loved him and he said, "I know," and I cried when Leia sneaked in to rescue him. Luke Skywalker? Never that big of draw.
The Sixties: I've been interested in the 1960s for years. When I was in high school, my Senior term paper was on the 1960s, and when I was in college, my Senior Honors thesis was on comic books of the 1960s. I love the music, I love the movies, I love the political and social mess that happened back then. It's a fun era.
