Figments and FilamentsApril 24th-26th
I'm Volunteer Coordinator for this. I've got the local D20 girls already, but I could definitely use some more people. If you're going, or thinking about going, and want to throw in a few volunteer hours, let me know. I've got discounts on pre-registration for 2016 & FnF merchandise coupons so far as benefits. I'm also happy to discuss other options, if there's something you're interested in as a benefit.
ConQuestMay 22nd-24th
I'm running the Masquerade for ConQuest this year. I've got my judges, I've got a photographer, a fantastic lieutenant, and an MC. I've got a couple other jobs I'm looking to fill, and a few people that have offered to help ... I just need to line up those details. But hey, if you want a job doing stuff for me for this too, lemme know.
Possibly more importantly, if you're interested in PARTICIPATING in the Masquerade, you should do that. You should also tell your fellow costume-y friends. (I am aware that there have been some concerns with how things were run with the Masquerade in the past - however, I am not involved with any of that. None of my staff has been involved with any of that. It's a pretty clean sweep, and I hope that it will turn out to be effective. My goal is to have a fun, smooth-running costume contest that is fair and enjoyable for everyone involved.) I really want to increase the participation in this event, and have people feel comfortable taking part in it.
There's two basic options: Contest and Exhibition. For the contest portion, there are three categories: Best Re-Creation (a costume that is as close as possible to its original inspiration), Best Interpretation (a costume that is your take on an idea - characters in different times, genre mash-ups, etc.), and Best Original Costume (this is alllllll you. Base it on a character from a book that there are no pictures of, make up your own persona, make it work however you want.) There will also be a Best in Show, and there is the possibility of Honorable Mentions. For the contest, it does need to be something that you (or another ConQuest attendee) has made at least 75% of. If it's a bought costume, it's still welcome in the Exhibition. The exhibition portion is if you have a costume that you don't want judged - you just want a chance to show off how awesome you are. Either way, if you have a costume that you want to show off, you should consider it.
I'm going to be posting a lot of stuff about both of these, both here and on facebook, in the next couple months. If you have any questions, comments, etc., about either of these, please let me know!
