Humpty dumpty
Those who've read the Harry Potter books, will understand when I say that for years, I have always named my computers, "Sherry's Pensieve". However, I'm considering changing that. Perhaps it should be Humpty Dumpty. After all, it did crash,a nd I am slowly attempting to put it back together again.
So, yesterday, I got anti virus installed, got Office installed and transferred everything important to the external drive for safe keeping. Today I downloaded super anti spy ware. i'm currently running a scan with the new anti virus program, and it's taking almost two hours! i can't do anything else till it's done, but I want to make sure the computer is clean before doing anything else. Unfortunately, the program doesn't seem fully accessible, and I wish I'd gone back to my PC Cillin which was completely accessible. I'll have to get a sighted person to set up the things I want. Then I'm going to download the new Jaws 11. I had to get new activations reset, but that's done. so, when this anti virus scan is complete, I'll take care of updating jaws.
I installed Win DVD, a nice and mostly accessible program for playing DVD's on the computer today. It asked me to register my software but didn't ask me for license codes, which I have, I think. Later, I'll get a DVD out and check it out. I really don't want to have to pay for it again. One of the irritating things about going through this is that I have to pay for so much that i'd already paid for, but can't do without on the computer, like the anti virus and the DVD program. It doesn't seem fair, but I guess if my coffee maker died, I'd have to buy a new one, but computers seem to die more often than coffee makers! For year and years, I never had a computer crash, never got viruses nothing. now, in less than two years, two computers have crashed, and I'm protecting them better than ever. I'm not one to go to strange sites and download things I'm not sure of. sigh.
I also want to get winamp reinstalled on the laptop so I can play my music again. Then reinstall a few of my games, which I think I had backed up so might still be able to use. Last of all, I need to get rid of all the stuff for me on this computer I've been using, put what I need on the external so I can have it with the laptop, save any important info in emails and turn this back over to my friends.

But in the HP books, a Pensieve is a place to put your thoughts to be able to look at them later, and that's what a computer is to me, among other things. The place I keep the thoughts and feelings, hopes, fears, dreams, sorrows, the things I don't share with others. it's my Pensieve.
Now for a small little thing, ... ok, not so small. Yesterday was six months since I got fired. I deliberately kept myself busy yesterday, trying not to think of it, not wanting to wallow. it's done, it's over, and I've moved on pretty well. someday, I'll write in here the truth about what happened, but this isn't the day.
There is a ton of snow out there, though it's wet and will be melting, probably already is beginning to, though it's awfully cold still. But we're supposed to be at 60 degrees by monday. secretly, I hope we get more snow storms like the one we just had! It was such a blast.
