Total "Eclipse" of the Heart...

So I saw Eclipse at midnight with beaksy13 , as I said earlier, and as I hoped there was a fun crowd there, as far as audience reaction-especially since they cheered by far the most and the loudest for Jacob and the J/B bits, which obviously I approved of! ;) xD  Here are my thoughts on the movie....

I'm kind of not sure what to make of it....there were some really good/well done/interesting parts, some neat things they added to the movie, but there were also some REALLY dull parts (especially that goddamn tent scene that went on for an eternity!), and in all the movie was just really choppy and seemed rather thrown together--it didn't feel like a unified movie so much, as the last two did, but a collection of scenes, in a way that was much worst than some of the HP films that have suffered from a similar problem.

Also the acting seemed even worse in this movie than in the previous two, especially on Edward and Bella's parts-their interaction was duller and more stilted than ever (except for the hot-ish almost!sex scene that Edward cock-blocked as usual), and KStew and RPattz just didn’t seem to be trying nearly as hard in this movie as before. Edward seemed to take over “ridiculous pained expression” duty from Jasper, while Bella did (as the WashPo review said) have a rather doll-like blank stare in those brown contact lenses).

Although Bryce Dallas Howard was so utterly godawful as Victoria it made KStew's acting as Bella seem like Oscar-worthy material in comparison! *rolleyes* I mean seriously, even if you wanted to be all bitchy and boot the talented and perfect-for-the-role Rachelle, why would you pick BDH?! She wasn’t remotely fierce or wild or dangerous looking, nor did she seem that manipulative or cruel, more like a pathetic cry-baby! It pains me to think of how much better all of her scenes (of which there sure were many!) would have been, had Rachelle been in the role instead….it’s such a shame that in the movie in which Victoria has the largest role, they didn’t have the best Victoria in the movie…*sigh* It was just so short-sighted of them to deliberately sabotage their own movie like that, but then again I suppose they just didn’t care, they knew people would come out and see it anyway….but ugh!

Additionally, there were several elements of the book that didn't get translated into the movie as I would have liked--for instance there seemed to be no fallout for Edward's obnoxious truck-dismembering nonsense (we didn't see her really getting made about that, come on now!), and several of my favorite J/B lines weren't in the movie ("Did you just stomp your foot? I thought girls only did that on TV", "the air the sun," "if there were no monsters and no magic"). And I didn't like that they didn't include Jacob running away at the end, not sure how'll they'll do that in BD. I was just not that satisfied with how they did the J/B in this movie, overall, less so even than in the last movie-though I was expecting some disappointment from what SOB-ers who had read the leaked script were saying. *sigh*

And I didn't like the music as much either-they get freaking Florence and the Machine to do a song for the soundtrack and then chose NOT to use her song in the movie?! WTF?! Fail, music director, fail!

So I think this was probably my least favorite movie of the three, though there were still moments to enjoy. Like the Alice/Jasper (have we ever seen them kissing before?) and some of the flashbacks (Rosalie, Jasper, etc), better wigs on Jasper and Rosalie, Riley, Jessica's graduation speech (I wish we could have seen more of her, she is the highlight of each movie!), seeing the Volturi more in that additional scene of them, actually seeing the encounter between the wolves and the Cullens--there was a lot more action in this one, but action that made sense in the storyline, not added in and going on forever like in the last two films. And the J/B kiss was pretty hot as well! ;) Poor Jacob….

And that engagement ring that Edward gave to Bella was just SO hideous and lol-worthy, I don’t blame Bella for not wanting to wear that kind of bling! :p I did love though that movie!Bella actually responded to Edward’s “Mrs. Cullen” with a shocking “This is the twenty-first century, I don’t have to take your name”!! I was actually going, “You go girlfriend!” in that moment, lol-such a contrast to Book!Bella who is all, “ZOMG I’M MRS. EDWARD CULLEN 4 EVA RN!” Movie!Bella was always a little more feminist/stronger than Book!Bella, which obviously isn’t saying much, but still a little improvement!

Before the movie though there was an awesome new trailer for both parts of the last HP movie (though admittedly it would have been more awesome had it shown the usual H/Hr moments, along with all the R/Hr and H/G it was showing! :( ). Still so many months away though...
