I arrived in Hong Kong island last night. It is an AMAZING city. I have never seen a city so crowded, packed with sky rises, and green at the same time. I dont even know how to describe it. The flight over here was OK- Winter did not make it out of Denver due to a snow storm so I unexpectedly flew 20 hours alone. No worries I guess- I had a whole row to myself so I got some sleep. Today, Linda Eshel (the mother of the family I am staying with) and I went through downtown, the shopping district, SOHO, and to lunch. Chopsticks are not my forte but my the time I leave I'll be a pro. I have never seen so many designer stores and super nice cars as I did walking through Hong Kong. It is incredible.
The Eshel's apartment overlooks the city and, on a clear day, is breath taking. It rained today which is a bummer but hopefully it will clear up. It is probably 75 degrees but super humid due to the rain. The Eshels are french and super funny. Well no, Ory- the father- is french and Linda is american. They lived in texas for a few years but mostly in France. They just moved to Hong Kong 9 months ago.
I dont really know what to say as I just got here and have not really been exposed to the culture. Everyone in Hong Kong speaks english and it is super technological and modern. I could def. live here. OOO I went to a temple today. It was way cool. They had INTENSE circular incense burners. You could smell it a block a way- literally. People pay to have a prayer hung from the burners and I dont really know what else they do. These incense are so huge they burn for months at a time. There must be 100 of them in this small room so needless to say, its a bit over powering. Anyway, I think I may take a nap because its a gross day and I woke up at 3 30 this morning.
mattie- thank you SO much for your card. It really meant a lot and was the coolest card Ive ever seen. you'll be getting an e-mail soon I promise.
