Fic: Love is Written by A Comic -- Chapter 3

May 31, 2008 21:09

Hi to all!

Finally, I wrote the third chapter of this story. *throws the confetti to herself*

I really had a hard time writing this. I hope you'll enjoy reading this. *winks*

Title: Love is Written by A Comic

Rating: T

Pairing: FujiRyo (Fuji Syusuke x Echizen Ryoma)

Genre: Romance, a dash of Drama and Humor (I think *sweatdrops*)

Disclaimer: I don't own Prince of Tennis. Konomi does.

Warning: A few OCs and characters might go out of their usual character.

This means thoughts.

"This" means flashback.

It started with a question.

Soujirou and I were sitting under a tree one day. I was reading a rather thick book when he suddenly asked me.

“Ne, Ryou.” He paused. “Have you ever been kissed before?”

Staring disbelievingly, I was totally dumbfounded by his question that the book I was reading dropped on my lap. “W-what are you talking about?” I nearly stammered. “Why are you asking me that strange question?” I looked away from him.

“Nothing.” He sighed. “It's just that a girl confessed to me this morning and then, all of a sudden, she kissed me.”

“I see.” I peered discreetly at him. “I'm...not surprised about that.” I smiled wryly to myself. Why should I be surprised? The guy is handsome and friendly to all-unlike me, so apathetic and aloof.

We were quiet for a moment before I felt his hand caressing my long, dark green tresses. “Uh...what are you doing, Souji?” What is he doing? I tried to not shiver from his touch. His hand-his warm hand somehow comforts me.

“I really like touching your hair, Ryouya.” He took a lock of my hair. “So smooth,” he murmured, inhaling the scent. “And smells like roses, too.”

My heart started to beat erratically, as his words took my breath away. I shouldn't be feeling like this. Soujirou is my friend. My only friend. I won't let this-feeling interfere our friendship.

“Ryouya, are you all right?” I glanced back and saw the worried look on his eyes.

“Please,” I gave him a rather feeble smile to ease his worries. “I'm fine. I'm...just fine.”

“You don't look fine to me.” He grabbed my shoulders, forcing me to stare at his cerulean blue eyes. “Ryouya...”

“What is it?” I whispered, still lost from the blueness of his eyes.

“Can I kiss you?”

I stared blankly at him. Kiss me? Is he insane? I slapped his hands away. “Are you insane? Did that girl's kiss manage to wreck your brain or something?”

“Heh.” He smirked.

My eyes narrowed suspiciously at him. “What?”

He suddenly hugged me. “You're so adorable, Ryouya. That's why I like you.”

Adorable? I raised a surprised brow. What's so adorable about me? No one dares to say to my face that I'm adorable.

“That's why,” he leaned to my ear and whispered, “I'm going to kiss you.”

As soon as I sensed his lips touching mine, I felt that time stopped between us. I never thought a kiss could be like this.

I could taste the sweetness of the caramel candy that he's eating minutes ago. I could scent the sandalwood from his skin. Ah... I said to myself. I never thought a kiss could be this wonderful.

When he released me, I could gaze at his seemingly glowing eyes as he smiled tenderly at me. “What do you think, Ryouya?”

My only response was-to my surprise, I kissed him again.

CHAPTER THREE

--It All Started With A Kiss--

“Where's Echizen?”

Horio, who was talking to Kachiro and Katsuo, glanced at the doorway of his classroom as he saw Fuji standing outside.

“Oh, you just missed him, Fuji-senpai.” He pointed at Ryoma's desk. “He immediately left the room after our teacher left.”

“Do you know where he's going?”

The freshman shrugged. “Saa...”

“I see.” The senior flashed his usual smile on them. “I shall see him then at the afternoon practice.” He quietly left.

Horio sighed in relief. “I wonder what's wrong with Fuji-senpai today.”

“What do you mean, Horio-kun?” Kachiro glanced inquiringly at him.

He stared blankly at them. “Haven't both of you noticed?”

“Noticed what?”

Horio let out an exasperated sigh. “Fuji-senpai has been coming here a lot lately and he always asked about Echizen's whereabouts.” He scratched his head. “Like hell, I would know where that guy is.”

Katsuo tried to comfort him. “Mah, let's just hope that he has found Ryoma-kun.”

“I hope so.” Horio stared at them. “I do hope so.”

But-Fuji hasn't still found Echizen.

He had checked out either the rooftop or the clubhouse, but no sign of the said freshman.

“I wonder where Echizen is,” he mused while walking down the hallway. I really want to know if he's Minami Chitose or not.

“Are,” he looked in front of him as he saw the art teacher, Asahina Mikaru, just leaving from her office. “Fuji-kun!” She smiled serenely. “It's nice to see you here again.”

“Ah, Asahina-sensei!” He tried to hide his discomfiture from her. He didn't notice that he was entering the so-called forbidden section of the school, where most of the art classes were held.

Asahina Mikaru is the art teacher-the only art teacher of the school and was known for her angelic beauty and smile, as well as her very strict method of teaching and her sharp tongue.

“So what brings you here?” she asked. “You're graduating, right?”

“I...better go, sensei.” He bowed his head slightly. “I remembered that Eiji wants to see me at the library.”

“Well, that's too bad.” She smiled again. “I hope you'll visit here again, Fuji-kun.”

“I will. Ja!” Fuji quickly retraced his steps back to his classroom.

Mikaru chuckled softly as she went back to her office.

Ryoma was drawing at a table near the window. “Is he gone, sensei?” he asked, his eyes still focused on his work.

“Yes. He went back on his way, Ryoma-kun.” She closed the door silently in order not to disturb him and walked over to the table. “I've heard from the teachers that he has been stalking for you.”

Sighing in relief, he placed down his pencil and leaned on the wall. “I'm finally done.”

“Let me see.” The teacher picked up the drawing, looking closely at it.

“What do you think, Mikaru-sensei?”

“Hmm...This is good.” She gave back the drawing to him. “But the kiss...”

“I know.” Ryoma sighed. “It sucked.”

“Heh.” She smiled amusingly. “I'm glad you know.”

“I simply couldn't get it right.” He looked at his work again. “The work is fine but-I feel that there's something odd.”

“Hmm...” Mikaru looked at the drawing again. “Have you tried kissing anyone before, Ryoma?”

Ryoma stared blankly at her. “I-take that as an answer.” She tried not to laugh.

He glowered. “Very amusing.”

“Seriously though,” she sat down at her seat. “Maybe you should let yourself be kissed for once.”

He raised a brow. “Really?” He looked outside. “What's so great about a kiss, Mikaru-sensei?”

Mikaru gave him an enigmatic smile. “Saa...”

His eyes narrowed at her before he said, “Che”, gaining another chuckle from her.

The art teacher was about to say something when the school bell rang.

“You better go, Ryoma-kun. I'll keep these for you.”

Ryoma rose from his seat. “Thank you, Mikaru.”

She smiled at him. “Don't mention it.” The school bell rang again. “Just go. You can come back here tomorrow.”

“I will.” He closed the door behind.

Mikaru glanced outside from her window with a faint smile on her face. “You will soon discover the beauty of a kiss...Echizen Ryoma.”

She sighed softly and watched the leaves dancing with the breeze outside.

At the tennis courts...

Everyone in the club except Tezuka and Coach Ryuuzaki were trying to avoid dealing with the Seigaku tensai.

Though it wasn't obvious, Fuji was rather in the bad mood and only a few knew the reason behind it.

“Mou--why, of all days, Ochibi has to do his library duty today?” whined Eiji, while he and his teammates were running around the courts.

“We can't help it, Eiji,” said Oishi, trying to keep pace with his partner. “Echizen is the library representative of his class.”

“I know but--,” the redhead peered discreetly at Fuji, who was running not so far from them. “--he starts to scare me, Oishi.” His partner sighed.

“But really, Echizen is so lucky,” said Momoshiro, nonchalantly. “He doesn't have to deal with Fuji-senpai's ominous mood today.” He didn't notice that Fuji was slowing down.

“Momo...” Eiji warned him but the junior continued.

“I saw him with a girl yesterday at the east wing staircase. I think that girl was trying to confess her feelings to him.” Momoshiro grinned. “I'm curious if he accepted her confession. He he!”

“So am I.” Everyone especially Momoshiro cringed when he heard Fuji's voice right beside him. “Would you care to elaborate that further, Momoshiro-kun?”

“Ano, Fuji-senpai,” the cornered junior finally realized the reason behind the tensai's sour mood. “Can't we discuss after practice?”

Fuji smiled serenely. “No.”

Momoshiro groaned inwardly. No, I don't want to die.

At the library...

The librarian, Minase Kanna, was drumming her fingers at her desk, thinking about her conversation earlier with her son. She was so deep in her thoughts that she didn't notice Ryoma coming inside.

“Minase-san--” Ryoma placed the books on her desk. “Asahina-sensei has requested me to return these and to borrow the books on the list.” He placed the list in front of her, finally gaining her attention.

“Oh!” She was startled by his presence. “I'm so sorry about that.” She picked up the list and read it. “Hmm...We do have them.” She glanced at the clock. “Um, Echizen-kun. I was wondering if you're willing to stay here for an hour or so.”

The freshman gazed questioningly at her. “I know you have other things to do; but my son is having his birthday today. I've promised him to buy a cake and I forgot about his gift as well. So...” She faltered, glancing uncertainly at him.

Ryoma shrugged. “I don't mind staying here for a while. I've already told Ryuuzaki-sensei about me being the library rep today. Besides, I can look for those books that Asahina-sensei asked you to find.”

Minase rose from her seat, clutching her purse. “I'm sorry again, Echizen-kun,” she said in an apologetic tone. “I'll find someone to join you in here.” She opened the door slightly.

“Just take your time, Minase-san.”

She beamed. “I will.” She then closed the door.

Ryoma picked up the list and skimmed over it. “I think these books are at the second floor.”

He climbed up to the second floor and began finding them.

Fuji was planning to go home when he accidentally met Minase, who was walking hurriedly.

“Minase-san!” He waved at her.

“Oh, Fuji-kun.” She stopped walking, waiting for Fuji. “I haven't seen you for a while.”

“Did you come from the library?”

“Yes. Although,” she looked at her watch. “I'm rather in a hurry. I have to catch a bus to Beika.”

“Who's watching the library right now?”

“I almost forgot.” She grabbed both of his hands. “Will you go over there? Echizen-kun has agreed to look over the place while I'm gone. I don't want making him feel lonely--”

“Don't worry. I'm willing to oblige your request, Minase-san.”

The librarian sighed in relief as she released his hands. “Thank you, Fuji-kun. I'll see you two later.” She literally dashed her way towards the gate and managed to catch the bus.

“Well then,” he started to walk to the direction of the library. “It seems that my luck hasn't run out.”

He smiled to himself. It would be nice to see his stunned face for a start.

When he entered the library, the whole place is totally quiet. He could even hear the loud chatter of the students passing by.

He placed his bag on a nearby table and was about to look for Ryoma when he met his classmate, a boy with coal black hair and solemn black eyes, coming down the stairs.

“Mikeru, I didn't think you'll be here,” he greeted him but the boy merely stared back. “Have you seen Echizen-kun?”

“Echizen-kun?” Mikeru pondered for a while. “Ah! I think I saw him asleep at the window.” He pointed his window to his right.

“Thank you.” Fuji went upstairs and turned left as he strode towards the huge library windows.

Indeed, Ryoma was leaning against the window sill when he arrived there. The book that he was reading was lying on the floor.

Fuji picked it up, placed it beside the books that were piled near Ryoma's bag and then sat beside him as he glanced outside. It's getting dark.

He gazed at the sleeping boy and lightly tousled his dark-green hair. “I really had hard time looking for you, yet here you are...” He couldn't help but smile at the sight. How cute...But sad to say, I have to separate you from your dreams.

He shook Ryoma's shoulder and watched him, slowly stirring up from his slumber.

“Fuji-senpai?” Ryoma looked hesitantly at him. “What are you doing here?” He yawned.

Fuji smiled. “Waking up a sleeping beauty.”

Ryoma glared at him. “How amusing. How long have you been here?”

“I've just came here.”

“Oh, really?” He glanced outside. “Is Minase-san here yet?”

“She'll be here any time now. By the way, Momoshiro-kun told me that a girl confessed to you yesterday.”

“Oh, that?” Ryoma shrugged. “It was only a misunderstanding. She mistakenly placed her letter on my desk instead the desk beside me.”

“I see.”

They fell into an amicable silence, enjoying each other's presence.

“Ne, Echizen.”

Ryoma peered suspiciously at Fuji. “What is it?”

“Can I kiss you?”

The freshman stared disbelievingly at him. I can't believe I'm hearing this. This guy is insane. He's supposed to be a genius, for Pete's sake.

“Echizen, are you all right?” Fuji gazed at him.

“O-of course, I'm not all right,” Ryoma nearly stammered, avoiding his gaze. “How dare you ask me like that?” He unconsciously clenched his hand on a book. “A kiss is supposed to be done with the person you love...” He started to ramble.

Fuji glanced at the clenched hand and smiled inwardly. This is interesting. “Echizen...”

“What?” Ryoma glared irritably.

“Do you remember what you said to me at the park not so long ago?”

Ryoma raised a skeptical brow. The park? I don't remember--He suddenly remembered about his conversation with the tensai not so long ago at the park.

“What if I told you that I have really fallen for you? What would be your answer?”

Right. I remember now. He let out a sigh. I gave him a rather open-ended question. He peered discreetly to the brunette. I have no plans to give in to these feelings.

Fuji was totally amused while watching Ryoma fretting. He's really trying his best to hide his feelings from me. How amusing...

“Echizen,” Ryoma glanced at him. “You look cute.”

“What the heck are you--” He went silent as Fuji suddenly kissed him; the words that he was about to say lay forgotten as his thoughts were focused on the kiss.

I understand now. The kiss I drew was lifeless. Without passion at all. Comparing to this...

I never thought a kiss could be this wonderful...

Minutes later, they were walking along a quiet street, still awkward from the kiss they have earlier.

“Fuji-senpai,” Fuji halted as he glanced at Ryoma. “About that question you've asked at the park-I'll take back what I said.”

“Really?” The brunette smiled faintly. “What changed your mind? Was it the kiss?”

“Maybe,” Ryoma replied enigmatically. “Maybe not.”

He then strode away from Fuji with a faint smirk on his face.

I won't tell you just yet, Fuji-senpai. After all, the game has just begun.

What do you think?
