Hi!
I know I haven't been updating my stories in here and in Ff.net and yet, here I am writing a new story.
Actually, I've written this story before I wrote The Connection between Us; but somehow, I've forgotten all about this story until I was cleaning my messy cabinet.
Anyway, I was inspired to write this story again while watching D.Gray-man.
I hope you like the story. *winks*
Title: Doubt and Trust
Author: Yours truly, Sherlock Marple!
Rating: T
Pairing: I'm not sure for now. It's either Tezuka x Echizen or Fuji x Echizen.
Genre: Romance, Mystery, Drama (?), Angst (?!?)
Disclaimer: I don't own both of these series: Prince of Tennis and Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna. Both Takeshi Konomi and Shirodaira Kyou & Mizuno Eita owned them respectively.
Warning: Characters might not be in their usual character.
Timeline of the Series: The story happened after the Kantou Tournament and before Nationals but I'm going to use the anime version, not the manga.
Summary: Hmm...After winning the Kantou Tournament, Ryoma received a mysterious gift from a friend, gaining the interests from his teammates. Since that day, the freshman became more aloof and secretive to them. Because of the sudden change, his teammates started to get concern, not knowing that Ryoma has been hiding a big secret that could alter their lives forever.
"This" means message.
This means thoughts.
Chapter One
-The Message Passed from the Ayame (1) to Ryoma-
After finally winning the Kantou Tournament, the whole Seigaku team (without their team captain, Tezuka Kunimitsu, who is still recuperating at Germany) decided to celebrate their win at Kawamura's Sushi Shop.
As usual, there was commotion inside the shop. Momoshiro and Kaidoh were fighting over a piece of anago while Oishi and Kawamura tried to stop them.
Kikumaru merrily ate his sushi, ignoring the ongoing fight.
Inui was scribbling furiously in his notebook, mumbling incoherently to himself; while Fuji was watching the fight in amusement.
And Ryoma? Well...he also ignored the fight, quietly eating his sushi at the far corner table of the shop.
Why am I stuck with them? He sighed inwardly. I should be at home, sleeping in my bed.
“A penny for your thoughts, Echizen?” He was a bit startled by Fuji, who was now sitting right across him. “What's with this silence? Still stunned from your win against Sanada?”
Ryoma merely shrugged. “It's nothing, Fuji-senpai.”
“Really--”
Knock. Knock.
Fuji stood up and strode towards the door. “I thought the shop is closed for the celebration.” He slid the door open as he saw a delivery boy carrying a vase, filled with Japanese irises (2).
“Ano--,” the boy hesitantly looked inside. “Is Echizen Ryoma here?”
Ryoma dropped his sushi when he heard his name being mentioned. “Yes, I am Echizen Ryoma.” He stared intently at him. “Why?”
“Um...” The delivery boy walked inside and carefully placed the vase in front of him. “Someone sent this to you.”
Fuji noticed the stunned expression on the freshman's face when he saw the flowers. “Echizen, is there something wrong?”
“Huh?” Ryoma glanced up to Fuji, still distracted from the flowers.
He narrowed his eyes. “I was wondering if you're all right. You seemed to be surprised by these irises.”
“Oh, the irises?” He gazed back at the flowers. “I-didn't expect them.” He gingerly touched them. “Do I have to pay them?”
“No. They're already paid by the sender.” The delivery boy bowed his head slightly. “Will you excuse me? I still have deliveries to do.” He quietly slid back the door.
“Heh...” Kikumaru smiled slyly at the freshman. “Ochibi is so lucky to have a girlfriend.”
Ryoma said waspishly, scowling at him. “I don't have a girlfriend.”
“Ooh...I'm so scared.” The redhead smiled teasingly at him.
Some of his teammates tried to hide their amusement on their faces as they noticed the scowl on their youngest regular's face.
Momoshiro, who was busy wolfing down his sushi, suddenly piped in. “Oi, Echizen!”
The freshman stared warily at him. “What is it, Momo-senpai?” he asked testily.
“Those irises looked expensive. You must have a rich girlfriend,” Momoshiro blandly commented.
Kikumaru was about to laugh out loud but Oishi quickly stifled it, his hand pointing at the furious Ryoma.
“Ano-Echizen...” Kawamura tried to placate Ryoma's anger.
Having enough of his teammates' antics, Ryoma merely gave him a cold shoulder as he stared back at the irises.
“I didn't know that you like Japanese irises,” Fuji remarked daringly and then, noticed a small white card, placed in the middle of the arrangement. “Echizen, there's a note--”
Ryoma quickly snatched it before the brunet could get it. “Don't touch it.” He opened the card and read it.
“Congratulations on your win, Echizen Ryoma. I'm staying at my apartment right now.
Meet me there at eight in the evening. Don't be late.
Until then...
P. S. I don't have to mention my name, do I?” (3)
“He's here, huh...” Ryoma placed the card in his pocket. This is interesting.
Fuji looked curiously at him. “So who sent it? What does it say?”
“It's not important, Fuji-senpai,” Ryoma replied nonchalantly. “Just a female fan. Nothing more.” He idly picked a sushi and munched on it.
“I-see.” Fuji wasn't convinced with his reply.
He was about to interrogate him more when Ryoma gulped his tea and grabbed up his bag.
“Leaving so soon, Echizen?” Fuji quirked a brow as he watched Ryoma, standing up. “It's a bit early, you know.”
“I'll be meeting someone, Fuji-senpai,” Ryoma mumbled to Fuji before he slid the door open. “See you tomorrow.” He closed the door behind him.
The brunet frowned a bit. I'll better send an e-mail to Tezuka tonight.
It was five minutes before eight when Ryoma waltzed inside the apartment lobby.
“Ah." The concierge gave him a warm smile. "You must be Echizen Ryoma, Rutherford-kun's guest.” He gave a keycard to Ryoma. “He's waiting for you at his room.”
Ryoma readily accepted it as the elevator opened. “Thank you.”
The elevator attendant bowed before them. "Good evening."
“Please take this boy to Rutherford-kun.” The concierge ushered Ryoma inside the elevator. “You know where he is staying, don't you?”
“Yes. I'll send him there right away.” The attendant bowed again before pressing a button for the door to close.
The door slid shut as it started to ascend.
While waiting for the elevator to stop, the attendant was started intensely at the bored Ryoma. “That foreign musician surely has strange acquaintances.”
“Really?” Ryoma smirked faintly to himself. “I do admit. That guy has weird taste of friends.”
Ding.
The elevator stopped and the door opened. “We're here. This is the top floor,” said the elevator attendant. “Do you need my--”
“I'll take it from here,” Ryoma said in a curt tone, stepping out the elevator. “You don't have to bring me to his room. You may take your leave.”
The annoyed attendant closed the door before the elevator descended.
Ryoma strode towards the suite and swiped the keycard on the card reader; the door opened quietly.
As he walked inside the room, he was greeted by the soft strains of Liszt's Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude. (4)
I never thought he'll be playing this piece. He still believes that there's still hope for us.
With a faint amusement on his face, he walked towards the source of the music and saw a young man with a silver blond hair playing the grand piano.
“Yo.” Ryoma placed his bag on the floor, his eyes were gazing on the young man. “It's been a while, Eyes Rutherford.”
Eyes stopped playing, returning his gaze on Ryoma. “Aa. It has been a while, Echizen Ryoma."
(1) Ayame is the Japanese word for Iris. Basically, iris means message or says "I have a message for you" in the language of flowers. Although in some sites I've researched, it also means faith, hope, wisdom, valor and a promise in love.
(2) The botanical name for Japanese iris is Iris sanguinea. For more information, the site is
here. As for the close-up of the flower,
here.
(3) I underscored the i's here. Obviously, the one who sent him the message is Eyes Rutherford. *hits her head on the desk*
(4) Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude or 'The Blessing/Benediction of God in Solitude' is part of Franz Liszt's Harmonies Poétiques et Religieuses (Poetic and Religious Harmonies). If you want to listen this piece,
here.
Why did I entitle this story 'Doubt and Trust'? As I said earlier, I was indeed inspired to continue with this story because of the said anime. Actually, Doubt and Trust is the title of the 3rd OP of D. Gray-man which is sung by access, who also sang Hitomi no Tsubasa (the 3rd OP theme of the first season of Code Geass). Again, if you want to listen to this song (Doubt and Trust),
here. As for their video of this song,
