Chapter 2

Yoona was running late--- living at the heart of Seoul isn’t always a good thing; traffic jam at seven in the morning?

So as soon as she got off the car, she sped off into the academy in her three-inch heels. Yoona made a mental note to never wear high heels in school ever again.

Her heart was pounding and her heels were clicking frantically on the marbled floor as she ran as fast as she could in the now deserted hallway and tried not to think about the punishment that she’ll surely be getting from her teacher for being late in her second day in school.

She took of her shoes and tried to run barefoot but ended up dropping everything she was carrying. Her books and her heels landed on the marble floor with loud thuds.

Yoona cursed herself as she bent down to pick up her things but someone was picking it up for her already. She stared at the person with wide surprised eyes and quickly composed herself.

The person, a cute upper class guy, stood up to hand Yoona her books and she took it from him with a little nod, but she was once again caught off guard when the guy bent down once more only to pick up her heels that had fallen a few meters away from them and gently placed it on Yoona’s bare feet. She felt like an actual Cinderella at that moment.

“Tha---“ She was about to thank her savior when he cut her off.

“No time for the thank yous, I believe you’re running late.” He told her checking at his wristwatch; Yoona’s mind went blank and came back to reality in a millisecond only to realize that he was actually right.

Yoona squeaked, bowed down to the guy and ran off again. Leaving the guy laughing to himself as he stared at the heiress who was trying to run as fast as she can. When her figure couldn’t be seen anymore, he shook his head and leisurely strolled to his first class--- not even caring that he is now ten minutes late.

Yoona entered the classroom to find out that their homeroom teacher was absent--- thank goodness. She looked around for her friends and finally spotted Sooyoung who was talking (or babbling) to Seohyun non-stop.

“Good morning!” she greeted them. Seohyun smiled back and replied a soft “Good morning to you too Unnie.” Yoona sat down beside them.

“If it wasn’t for Mr. Kim’s fractured hip, you would have been in big trouble right now Yoong.” Sooyoung said, her voice getting louder and louder by the minute. Sooyoung doesn’t really have an internal filter… and a mute button for that matter.

It’s been more than twenty-four hours since Yoona came back and she hasn’t seen any of the boys yet, she realized. It made her curious where in the world they were all hiding.

Yoona told the two girls about her mysterious Prince Charming in the hallway just a few minutes ago and the girls both squealed in delight.

“What’s his name?” Sooyoung pried, her long arms swaying on her sides in excitement.

“Unfortunately, I don’t know. What I do know is that he’s really cute!” Yoona exclaimed enthusiastically as the noise in the room got louder from the chitchat of the students.

“Unnie, does that mean… you like him? Was it love at first sight?” Seohyun asked as her eyes widened in curiosity.

“No! Well, not yet anyway. I don’t even know his name. I think he’s a Senior though.” Yoona marveled as she thought about the way he gently put Yoona’s heels on her. She smiled involuntarily.

“Oooh! Eunhyuk probably knows him!” Sooyoung said as she clapped her hands.

“Oh my gosh Unnie, he is like your knight in shining armor!” Seohyun told the older girl with sparkling eyes; like a little girl reading about the happy ending of a fairytale.

The room suddenly fell silent as a seat scraped loudly on the floor and a tall guy stood off his seat. Yoona sat there quietly as she watched the guy take his books in an almost angry manner and stomped off out the door.

“Kyuhyun oppa, where are you going? It isn’t break yet!” Seohyun called out as she too stood up to follow after him only to be restrained by Sooyoung who has her eyes in tiny slits, Seohyun sat back down with a resigned expression on her pale face. The room fell back to its normal state but the three girls remained quiet.

“Let him be Seohyun. So… he isn’t over Yoona after all.” Sooyoung commented as she instantly whipped out her phone to break the news (or gossip) to her other friends (in short: Yuri, Taeyeon, Tiffany, Jessica, Hyoyeon and Sunny).

Seohyun slumped a little in her seat as another pang of jealousy hit her heart. Was it showing in her face? The jealousy? She hoped not.

“What are you talking about Unnie? There is no way that Oppa still likes me! It’s been what? Five years?” Yoona scoffed.

“Then what was that about then?” Sooyoung fired back, her fingers busy typing on her Blackberry. Seohyun was listening intently to her two unnies as she thought about Kyuhyun.

Yoona opened then closed her mouth. She didn’t know how to respond to that.

The bell for his first class has just rung as he entered the classroom. He saw Seohyun and Sooyoung seated by the window and expected to see Yoona. She wasn’t there… so far.

Kyuhyun masked his face similar to that of boredom and sat himself a few seats from the two girls. He placed his arms on his desk and rested his head on it, trying to think of something else aside from his ex-girlfriend.

He could hear the noise created by his classmates and he closed his eyes, trying to take a nap. A few minutes later the room erupts into jeers as they find out that their teacher is absent for the day and the noise increases. He wanted them all to shut the hell up.

He had a few minutes of short sleep when he heard the all too familiar melodic voice. He wanted to raise his head and look at Yoona, but he didn’t want to be discovered by her. Well not yet anyway.

After all these years it seemed that a lot of things have changed--- but not his feelings for Yoona, not one bit. But it was pretty obvious that she had forgotten about him by the looks of it.

He eavesdropped on their conversation and it took all his strength to not slam his fist on the table.
Yoona happily talked about her ‘knight in shining armor’ who helped her pick up her books and even put on her shoes like freakin’ Cinderella, so on and so forth.

Kyuhyun couldn’t take it anymore. He got off his seat and stormed off the door.

“Kyuhyun oppa, where are you going? It isn’t break yet!” he heard Seohyun say. Kyuhyun rolled his eyes and strode faster, his long legs making it all the more effortless.

He caught a glance at Yoona and bit his tongue. She still looks the same as she does five years ago--- only prettier. He clenched his fists to restrain himself from turning around and stare at her. Thankfully he succeeded.

A few minutes later, the bell rung signaling the school a short break. Students filed out of their respective classrooms and made their way to the cafetria.

Kyuhyun continued walking and slipped his hands inside his jacket pocket, keeping his head bowed down in case Yoona and her annoyingly loud friends pass by him.

Was he really going to keep on running away from her?

“Yoona?” Someone called out from behind her. She turned around and her face lit up at the sight of him.

“Sungmin oppa!” she squealed as she flung her arms around him. Sungmin laughed, patting Yoona on the head.

“Just look at you! The last time I saw you, you still had over sized bows on your pigtails!” He joked. Yoona pinched his arm.

“You’re too much oppa.” She pointed out. “I take it you’re keeping Sunny unnie happy?” she questioned, mocking sternness. Sungmin raised both of his hands in the air.

“Well… we’re celebrating our sixth year anniversary aren’t we? That counts right?” He answered nonchalantly.

“Congratulations!” she greeted as she pulls him in for another hug. “Anyway, have you seen Kyu opaa around? I haven’t seen him yet.” She asked. Sungmin shrugged.

“No sorry Yoona. Do you want to say something to him? I can relay your message if I see him. If you want to, that is.” Sungmin offered.

“I do want to talk to him. But I’d prefer it if I speak to him personally.” She explained. Sungmin’s phone rung and he smiled charmingly as he read the message.

“Sunny unnie?” Yoona asked, also smiling. He nodded.

“Duty calls.” Sungmin announced and happily waved goodbye to the heiress. “I’ll call you if I see Kyuhyun.” He added, reciting his phone number to her, which evidently the other female students in the hall saved in their phones.

Yoona typed in her phone and shouted a “Thanks Oppa!” as Sungmin made his way to his waiting girlfriend.

Yoona sighed. Where was Kyuhyun oppa?
