Hearing Test Update

I suppose I should do an update on my hearing test.

Well, it wasn't a wax problem.

I am right above the line of deaf for my right ear where sound is concerned, but I have 0% comprehension. In my left I have below average sound, and 73% comprehension. I am told the left ear can be helped with a hearing aid, and I have to get an MRI in order to see if I have any tumors in my brain which are contributing to my right ear issues. The doctor said they would most likely be tiny and benign, since I have no secondary symptoms and my right ear problems have been going on for years.

She is checking to see if she can legally give me a hearing aide while I try to either get on insurance or get enough money for an MRI.  I have a few options I am looking into; and if all else fails when I go to CCA next year I will be on their insurance, as that is required for all students.  Till then my friend (and fellow apartment complex dweller) Lexi has given me a discount medical program to look over, so that may help too.

The audiologist said with any luck my hearing won't deteriorate further, and told me to keep track of any changes that happen.  She said she figures my hearing comprehension loss is due to multiple accidents and damage to the cranial nerves, and my left ear is probably getting tired of making up the difference.   A digital hearing aid will relieve the strain on that ear without causing more deafness.

So, some more steps, but not entirely horrible news.. I suppose only time will tell if I will lose any more comprehension or hearing in my left ear.

life, hearing
