Worship in the Woods

So painting (minus a little trim work) is complete. Our apartment looks like the inside of a skittles bag :-) I'm a little concerned with how we are going to fit all of our stuff (Christina has lived in a house these two years) but I think we shall manage. Ah! So excited!

I just drove back from the airport, where Christina picked up a super swank Pontiac Grande Prix from Enterprise. She's taking a three day trip to our sister state.

So once again, I am at my leisure with her Honda. Which means I may go home (despite the fam being in Maine). Possibly a Frisbee game in good ole Rut-Vegas. Bonfire in the back field? Star gazing while listening to peepers on the sweet country air?

Worship in the Woods was refreshing. I realized Sunday that I hadn't slept very much for a week. Up till' 1:00 AM baking Wednesday, Thursday was the semi-formal dinner party at Christian's, Friday was the longest baseball game in history (literally) at Nectars with the North Ave. gang, Saturday was a long day of painting topped with a night of dancing and Sunday was another long day of painting after church. So I was exhausted Sunday evening. But as we progressed into the woods, the smells and the sounds revived my spirits. The little light left from the day filtered through the leaves, creating a cathedral of green. There was a rushing river, the smell of wet earth, and the drip of rain from the trees. Everything was slowed down, relaxed and flowing. Ann had baked the sweetest bread and produced a bottle of homemade wine for the best communion I've ever received. One of our numbers softly strummed a guitar and sang as Ann poured the wine into a goblet somebody had made in pottery class. We dipped the sizable pieces of bread in the wine before eating together.

What was really great about this was that we were represented by a couple churches. North Ave, Essex, and the church Kevin is trying to start. Despite this, we were all gathered and connected through Christ. To experience church in the great outdoors seemed very right. Away from the distractions of the city, and just life in general. It was easier to listen and reflect on what God has been trying to tell me, and easier to focus on him rather than the multiple things I always feel I have to do.

We walked back through the woods, tiki torches in hand. The earth was soft, and the air smelled of pine needles.
