It was probably the sweetest birthday I've ever had.
Not that 24 is that old, but I was kind of feeling the pressure of not even having the beginnings of a family or a successful money raking career yet. I needed to stop and remember that
1. At least I'm eating and in a comfortable apartment
2. I've got great friends, and am not so ancient I haven't got a chance with anyone of the opposite sex
3. My job is meaningful and fulfilling.
I was bombarded at work with well wishes, singing, flowers, hugs, and the event was even announced by the principal over the intercom. How can I stay in a funk after that?
Faith baked me a cake, and we ate it with Jill and Kate at Muddy Waters (with Chai :-) A homeles man asked me on the way if I had change, and I gave him a big piece of cake instead. Jill said it was my birthday, and HE GAVE ME a dollar! My hands were full, and as much as I protested, he slipped it under my bracelet. On the way back from Muddys, he didn't recognize us, asked us for change again, I said "Sure!" handed him back the dollar, and he exclaimed "Now that's a hot dog!" and shook my hand :-)
Last night was yet another clebration at Jill and Gabe's, with "Toad in the Hole" and a cookie pizza. Mmm... This weekend we are hosting a mob of St. Mikes folk for their alumni weekend, Kris is coming up for hiking Camels hump, carving pumpkins, a reggae fest, flying kites, baking pies and drinking chai :-)
I suppose 24 isn't so bad.
