My parents visited last Saturday, and it surprisingly went very well. I was ecstatic that my dad was actually out of the house and doing something with Mom. They were late arriving because they just kept getting so sidetracked that morning! Mom got a ride in a corvette with Baxter, the first thing I heard about when they walked in the door. And it was so sunny and beautiful out! We all alked around B-Town, looking at all the set ups for Art Hop and checking out some of the demonstrations. We even walked to the lake and enjoyed the breeze as dad talked about the old Rutland Rail line that used to go up through the islands. I am intrigued with the island line, and definitely want to go by bicycle along the old causway.
Yesterday was a cooking frenzy. After Jill and I read for a couple hours in Battery Park, I made a TON of macaroni salad and some yummy chocolate chip cookies. I've never had them turn out so good.
It's been really interesting stumbling upon the random in this city. As I walked to school today, a lonely chili pepper lay on the sidewalk. It was kind of sad. Last Friday I passed an old woman, scattering pieces of bread to the pigeons on Church Street. One afternoon I was looking out my window when I saw the man with the blonde pigtales taking his doll for a walk in a stroller. He's probably middle age-ish, wears a dress, and is either over weight or stuffs his dress to make it look as if he is pregnant. He casually walks down the street with the plastic doll, her legs sticking out from the stroller. Jill said that he even sings to her.
Those are a few of the sad things you see around, but there is also so much to smile about! Couples swinging on the benches by the lake, or holding hands on the wall at Battery park, gazing at the lake. Or the tons of little kids you see each day, riding their bikes and riding their dads' shoulders. The many different kinds of dogs running about, and the pride of their owners.
I don't know. I once said that I could never live in a city, but this one isn't half bad. Not even a quarter. So who knows?
Am still church hunting, and Mom has found me a few sites to check out.
This weekend I am hoping to make it home for the hicktastic Tunbridge Fair. Let me know if any of you are interested in coming!
