FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Apr 29, 2010 22:20

Welcome to Paradox! Joining so active and large a community might be overwhelming, but this will answer most any question you have. If you still aren't sure after reading the FAQ, please feel free to comment on the Page-a-Mod post or contact one of the moderators via PM.

NEW TO LIVEJOURNAL?
If you're new to LiveJournal, there are a few simple tricks you should learn.

  1. What are lj-cuts?

Use lj-cuts to hide content from the main page. If your entry is content heavy, image heavy, or contains spoilers, you must use a lj-cut!

    • Using the Rich Text Editor: Highlight the text you want to cut, then press the button (
      ).

    • Using the HTML Editor: Type before the text you want to hide, replacing "read more" with the word or phrase of your choosing. To start showing text again, type after the text you want to hide.

  2. What are links?

If you want to direct others to a site outside of Paradox, you will want to use the HTML for links.

  3. How do I post pictures?

If the picture is a graphic you made, you will want to host it at a free site such as TinyPic, ImageShack, or Photobucket. You will use the image URL to share the image, using the following HTML:

  4. How do I search-by-poster?

The sort-by-poster feature allows you to browse a community’s entries by member.

Using this feature is easy. Simply add ?poster=username to the end of the sheldon_penny URL.

For example, typing http://community.livejournal.com/sheldon_penny/?poster=fujiidom will allow you to view all entries posted by fujiidom.

You may be thinking, “What if I want to find someone’s fic but not their art?” You can do that too by clicking the fan: fic tag and adding ?poster=username to the end of that URL.

For example, typing http://community.livejournal.com/sheldon_penny/tag/fan:%20fiction?poster=fujiidom will allow you to view all fan fic posted by fujiidom.
NOTE: LiveJournal, like any other internet forum or social network, has certain etiquette expectations. newbieguide is a great resource in general, but you should thoroughly read The Basic Do(s) and Don't(s) of LiveJournal!

NEW TO PARADOX?
Why Paradox? | Who runs this place? | Where can I read the rules? | What is moderated posting? | What is paradox_ot? | How do I post fan fiction? | How do I post fan art? | What are tags? How do I use them? | Who plays whom? | List of common acronyms. | List of episode abbreviations.

  1. Why Paradox?

A 'paradox' is a counterintuitive, but often true, conclusion or outcome. Sheldon/Penny does not seem to be the logical pairing in The Big Bang Theory, but nonetheless might work as well as (if not better) than any other.

  2. Who runs this place?

Your maintainers are Jess (galfridian/ @galfridian) and Maura (fujiidom/ @maurae); your moderators are Lisa (weasleytook/ @lisatook) and Courtney (courtney_beth/ @courtney_beth).

  3. Where can I read the rules?

A simplified version of the rules can be found in profile, an extensive version of the rules can be read here.

  4. What is moderated posting?

A moderator must approve an entry before it is viewable on the community. When a new entry is posted, each moderator will receive an automatic notification. After a moderator either accepts or rejects the entry, the member will receive an automatic notification. In the case of a rejected entry, a moderator will leave a note with an explanation as to why the post was rejected. Once the problem is fixed, the member may resubmit the entry.

  5. What is paradox_ot?

paradox_ot is the place for all off-topic discussion not fit for sheldon_penny. When joining sheldon_penny, please also join paradox_ot. For a list of what content is appropriate for each community, please review this entry.

  6. How do I post fan fiction?
When posting fan fiction, please use this header:

    Title:
    Author:
    Spoilers:
    Rating/Warnings:
    Word Count:
    Disclaimer:

You may also list other information, such an author's note or a summary, but please make sure to include the information above. If your rating is above pg-13, please include reasons as to why (profanity, violence, smut).

You may post your story directly to Paradox or provide a link to the story on your personal journal. If you post the story directly to Paradox, you must use a lj-cut.

Your entry would look like this:

    Rating Guidelines:
G - no profanity, nor suggestion of sexuality or violence at all
PG - suggestion of sexuality, light profanity and/or light violence
PG-13 - sexuality (but not overt), harsher profanity, violence
R - sexuality, profanity, hard violence
NC-17 explicit sexuality and violence, heavy profanity

  7. How do I post fan art?
We don't require a header for art, but may use the fan fiction header if you'd like. Simply substitute 'artist' for 'author' and use a lj-cut.

  8. What are tags? How do I use them?
Tags are words or phrases used to organize entries. Each post at Paradox is tagged so that it's easier to find in the future. You can find a list of the tags here. You can tag your entry one of two ways:

First, you can simply type your tag when posting your entry:

Second, you edit your entry's tags by clicking the tag button, circled below:

You will be able to browse a list of tags like this:
