Of course he looked, the mystery is whether he looked before or after Sheldon mentioned it, thus meaning that Sheldon was the only one who originally noticed it.
Howard was pretty much a jerk non-stop throughout the entire episode to Sheldon. In every scene he could be. For example, in the scene when they got back from court, Leonard told him to stop taunting Sheldon, and Howard went and made it worse. He was an ass.
I know that some would disagree with me, and I thought specifically of that scene with Penny in S2, but the thing is that there she wasn't really "trying" to act, it just happened. Here she was specifically. And why I thought it was real is because we've SEEN Penny truly do that pout thing when she's upset, and so she would put that in her "acting." I could be wrong, of course, which is why I made that note that I knew others would disagree.
I know she was deliberately acting, but it was almost as a joke. Like I said I could be wrong, but I'm totally okay with Penny being a terrible actress. I don't think it detracts from her awesomeness. She just needs to find something else that she is awesome at career-wise, if that's the case. But as I said, it's a matter of opinion. I watched that scene several times, trying to gauge whether she was trying to act, or trying to annoy Sheldon, and I always come away with the former. I'd love to see what the script said. Either way, it doesn't take away from my love of Penny.
Penny's guilt at what she'd done really came through. Whereas in the opening episode of Season 3, the boys (well, Howard) didn't care to see that what they had done was wrong on any level.
So, yeah, Sheldon can clearly only count on Penny for support and friendship.
I was going to make a few comments about the ending where I find Sheldon a little too clueless and Penny OOC as she bails on Sheldon. Sheldon is the last person to go barging in uninvited into someones space.
However, I will give it a re-watch and come back and see if my opinion changes.
On the plus side, I did find Raj's sound effect shirt one of the better and funnier gags the show has run in a long time.
I'll give it a rewatch over the weekend. The one thing that stuck with me after I finished watching was an extreme distaste for the last scene at Stan Lee's. Once I rewatch, I might be able to articulate my concerns more precisely.
I was woken up last night with a work emergency and so I might be letting that affect my judgement.

Aww, thank you.
You can find links to every previous breakdown (and yes, I have done one for every episode, but some of the earlier ones I'm still working on adding stuff because I didn't do vid clips, or awesome particulars when I first began, oh crap, and some s2 and early s3 episodes don't have the title section yet ... but I'm working on all of it, I swear!). Anyhoo, after that run-on sentence from hell, here's the link - The Master Breakdown List. And you can find it on the sidebar as well. :)

I talked about the latter in the Shipper Analysis, and I just didn't see the first at all.
Sheldon is the last person to go barging in uninvited into someones space.
But he was in the major throes of fanboy-ism.

Thankyou so very, very much.
(Do you always do this? Because if you do, you are offically amazing.)
I really love knowing about the alternative takes - the stuff we'd never otherwise get to know about.
