Chutzpah

A couple of months ago, I went to the Purim celebration at my temple (for the gentiles on the list, it's a Jewish holiday that involves much partying). I was sitting next to this rather attractive man (this was before Basso came into the picture) and chatting with him for quite some time, after which he asked for my phone number, which I was happy to give. Well, that was right when the organized part of the evening began, and we were separated in the course of the activities. I thought he would come over and say hello again when he had the chance, but no, he spent the rest of the evening hitting on our young female rabbi, and evidently kind of creeping her out. I was a little annoyed at myself for giving him my number at that point, but he'd seemed really nice and funny. Whatever. He left at the end of the night without even a glance at me.

This was several months ago. The jerk had the nerve to call me YESTERDAY to see if I remembered him and if I wanted to get together! I just said, very pleasantly, "No, I don't think so." He was like, "Um, okay..." and I just said "bye!" and hung up. I wish I'd been able to think of a clever way to let him know I thought he was an asshole, but alas, in the moment I was just so astounded that he had the nerve to call. I should have said "Oh, right, you're the one who chatted me up just long enough to get my phone number, ignored me the rest of the night to hit on the rabbi, and then didn't call for two months! How've you been?"
