Hello cousins,
Back after 5 days of hardship! Poor me - lol! After 5 days of no power, phones, internet and power, I am finally back in the real world. Hurricane Irene wholloped our area but we are so lucky, we didn't get the amount of rain they originally forecasted for our area. If we had had the rain it would have been a true disaster instead of a mighty inconvenience. If we get a true 3 hurricane in our area, it is going to be devastating.
I've spent the last few days living between the local firehouse where the hubs is Deputy Chief and my parents house. I would have stayed home but I have sleep apnea and need to be able to run my C-PAP machine. The firehouse has generator power and my parents only lost power for 18 hours.
We lost a fair amount of frozen food and have quite the mess to clean up between the pool and the tons of leaves and branches on our lawn. But no trees down and we got through it. There are still people without power in our local area. The library was a good source of power. They set up recharging stations for laptops and cell phones. Our wireless bandwidth came back first and was running very slow because of all the folks using it. We were running family movies in the Children's Activity area for weary parents and their children. Showers are offered at the Senior Center in the evenings and FEMA was giving out ready to eat meals in the local park. I have never seen this before. Hurricane Katrina taught them a few things.
So I am off to get a Muncle fix. We have a wedding to go to tomorrow! I have a new dress to wear and I am going to have some fun after a long week.
