As if life isn't complicated enough at work- my boss Jane just announced that she is retiring as of June 12! Seems the new contract is not up to snuff and if she retires now she'll get a better deal. She can devote herself to the non-profit that she founded a few years ago. Egad! though I am happy for her, the timing could not be worse. Finding a replacement for her will take months and they cannot begin to advertise for the position until the end of June when she officially retires.
Jen our part time librarian is out on maternity leave with the possibility that she might not come back. The rest of us are making do with substitutes - I think we are up to 3 regular subs so far. One is doing 10 hours a week and the rest are popping in for evenings and the occasional weekend storytime. Anne our young adult librarian (who just got upped to full-time) is even doing the 3-5 year old drop-in storytime.
Our head of Adult Services (doesn't that sound a little risque!) is applying for the directorship of another local library. I think she would be a good fit for them but it does seem like the library is imploding.
I am taking about 3 weeks off starting April 12 for my surgery, so Sue and I are trying to get the summer reading lists done and start on the summer reading program. We are usually much further ahead by now but our theme seems to leave us without the usual direction.
