We've been having a little heat wave here in Southern Oregon. It's been up in the 80s and 90s for the last four days. Ordinarily I am no great fan of very hot weather. (I think my ideal climate would be perennially sunny and 70 degrees. Maybe 60, some days, just for a little variety.) But it has been a looooooooooooooong winter, and rather to my startlement I have been positively revelling in the heat.
I had the thermostat set to 55° over the winter, and I turned it off for good sometime last month, because heating this apartment is ruinously expensive. When I got home from work on Sunday, it was warm in here- really warm in here- for possibly the first time since last fall. I spent the entire afternoon and evening just lying around and basking in the heat. The Demi-Smoke1 seemed to be greatly enjoying it too. The other cats were in and out of the room, but he was content to spend his time on the bed next to me, stre-e-e-e-ched out to his full length (which is considerable.) He seemed to be in a very good mood. As was I!
I wasn't quite such a sloth on Monday and Tuesday. Monday I took a walk in the evening, just in time to catch the last of the sunshine as I set out. The air was soft and warm and just delicious. Tuesday I ran errands in the heat and was still not tired of it. (Today, alas, I was mostly indoors because it was a work day.)
Summer's coming (hooray!) and I'm sure that once the temperature gets up into triple digits2 I will be complaining as loudly as ever. "Gaaaah! Why is it so hottttttt?????" But for now, I am very, VERY happy to sit in the oven and let the cold bake out of my bones.
1One of my three cats, for those just tuning in. The other two are the Tux and the Tortie, but those are just their internet nicknames. (Their real names are even more ridiculous.)
2And it will.
