Full of Christmas Cheer is up at my website

Pairing: SB/RL

RatingL PG-13

Summary: Umbridge’s crusade has left Remus feeling tense and reactive, which isn’t the best of moods when he wants to discuss something that he’s managed to avoid for over twenty years.

Notes: Less of a fic, more of an insert to book five ( Read more... )

Hello! *waves* Just wandered over to give you some feedback on this piece. I think it's excellent; and trust me, that is a rare thing. It's great to find something that isn't - if you get me - over-done...you see so much blathering on about pretty!Sirius, and so much OOCness. Yes, that's what I was trying to say! *facepalm* That everything here was VERY IC. The inserts from OotP fit amazingly well, and I can really imagine that's exactly what was happening backstage. Props!

1. “Someone’s idea of a joke, I guess. It represents just how much of an outcast I really am.” Remus let out a bitter laugh. “It goes back to the second Muggle world war. Basically, all those that didn’t fit in with the German ideal at the time were removed from society, sent to prison and later placed in concentration camps. They used different coloured triangles to show what sort of a prisoner you were.”

Again, this is so IC I can imagine that IS what Umbridge's legislation was. Wow. And I never knew that they coded prisoners like that...excellent analogy: Umbridge/Nazis. *slow clap*

2. The instant he said it, he realised what he had done and saw the instantaneous frown on Sirius’s face. Remus had sounded just like a child, sulking because he couldn’t get his way, and he felt mortified that not only had he just let his secret of over twenty years slip but that he had done it in such a pathetic way. Giving Sirius one last awkward glance, he fled from the kitchen, going back to the living room, where he could avoid talking to Sirius.

Aw, the poor dear!

3. “But…he’s… he’s going to get inside Harry’s head; he’s going to find out things about my godson. I know so little about Harry as it is, and now that slimy git gets to know even more about him than I do. It’s not fair, Remus; I’ve missed out on so much of his life.”

Excellent point! I don't know how many times I can keep saying this, but it's so IC. And Remus giving him the mirrors is a nice touch (apparently they're going to be important in the HBP - that should be interesting...xD)

4. “Seriously, the Muggle world was quite homophobic at the time, and that was being reflected in the Wizarding world, too. I wasn’t sure where any of you stood on the subject as a whole, and I wasn’t about to bring it up myself.”

This really isn't fluff. It's too well thought out and in-depth for that. Someone should really coin a new term...

5. At some point, Sirius had the idea of transfiguring the moth-eaten blanket, on which he had been sitting, into cushions, pillows, and a duvet. But his transfiguration skills still seemed a little rusty from Azkaban--either that or his enthusiasm towards the situation had run over into the spell he cast--and he ended up smothering them with an excess of bedding.

Hee.

6. “We weren’t doing anything…this morning,” Sirius said, and then, when Molly glared back, he added, “Do you really mean to tell me that none of your children have ever walked in on you and Arthur in bed?”

Double hee!

Only one quibble had I with this: the mention of Sirius' tattoos. Like Remus' 'scars', they are all the invention of the PoA make-up team. I know some people have got attached to them to the extent of making them their own, but I thought it was a pity, after all the canon-empathy, that you diverged from it here. Just a point!

Otherwise, well done. I rarely read post-Azkaban stuff, but I'm glad I did today. It was very enjoyable. xD

By the way, I friended your journal. If that's a prob., it's easily rescinded!

Thank you so much for giving me such detailed feedback :-)

1. The idea came to me after I read an interview with JKR, where she said how the Nazi regime had inspired the terminology regarding mubloods and the snobbery that came with it. I was surprised to find out that they also colour-coded politicals, Jehovah's Witnesses, immigrants and gypsies, as well.

4. Okay, so after being nagged - again ;-) - I'm going to remove the word fluff!

To be honest, I didn't give Sirius's tattoos a second thought with regards to book canon. But now you've pointed it out, I've tweaked it, as I think it can work just as well without. But if you don't like any of the movie-canon additions, you might want to stay away from any other fics of mine that feature Remus - I have a bit of a thing for the cardigan and the lupinstache...

And feel free to friend me! I don't post often (as you may have already noticed), usually only doing so when I have another story up at my site.

Thanks again for the wonderful feedback!

No worries!

She bases a lot of stuff on real history/real life, doesn't she? Like the prejudice against giants and things.

Oh, that's what I mean; some people like the cardie and tash. (Me, I just don't like facial hair on men, but that's just a personal thing.) Some things don't bug me as much as other things, and what characters look like isn't one of the biggies.

Cheers!

I've never been a great facial hair lover, but David Thewlis has won me over completely!

I don't think that what the characters look like is important in a fic - after all, it's the story that counts (and stories with shallow characters that are only together because they are 'teh pretty' bug me). But I can't help the kink that DT has given me with Remus...

I couldn't get over his voice, though...the man sounds like he gargles with gravel!

That's true. You can't get any depth of plot when you're basing everything on the prettiness factor. Try telling that to the Suethors, though! (And, eh, I got a bit of a kink over Malfoy too...*hides in shame*)

So, are you saying that's a good thing or a bad thing...?

You're not allowed to be shamefull! Enjoy your perversions ;-)

I am undecided. But I thought he'd have a smoother voice, I think. xD

Cheers!
