Good Van news

Quick van update: We got a call from ICBC over the weekend, and they've completed the preliminary assessment of the van. They think it's fixable. They will try to fix the ignition/steering column, replace the windshield and camper shell windows, and clean the carpets. They will give us cash towards the purchase of a new cd player and cb radio ($250 total). There will be a $300 deductible for the windshield work. The cabinetry damage we will take care of on our own (it's just a few hinges and stuff, not the kind of thing the repair shop would probably be able to do anyway). So that sounds acceptable to us. There's still a chance that when the van gets to the repair shop and they start working on vit, it will turn out to be more damaged than they thought, and they will have to total it. But the ICBC guy told us that the van's estimated worth is $3-4000, which is good, and we also managed to impress upon him that there were a lot of things we wanted to retrieve from the van if it was totaled. But it doesn't sound like it will be, so that is good.
In semi-related news, tickets for Burning Man 2007 go on sale in about a week. We're hoping to go, and we're going to get tickets, knowing that we can sell them if necessary, like last year. Anyone else thinking of going? Or know of a good group to camp with? We'd like to find an established camp to tag along with, at least for the first year, until we get the hang of things like securing tent poles in high winds and evaporating gray water and all that jazz.

van, burning man
