It's getting close to that time of the year again...

Umm. So, I have this unhealthy obsession with Eurovision. Or really, it could be a lot worse... and it probably would be, if I let it. I'm trying to control it, really, I am.

For those of you who do not know what Eurovision is (oh, you poor things!), it's a song contest that is held each year, and a whole bunch of European countries participate in it. It's great, and is always full of crappy songs, that are really the reason why it's so much fun in the first place.

So, each year, there's an introduction on TV of all the songs competing. We just had the first nine or so songs played tonight... and the first one was Austria.

It's really not such a terrible song. It's not good at all, but it could be a lot worse.

And then there's yodeling.

So when the song is over, my mom (covering her face) goes "Oh my god, I feel so ashamed!", to which me and my father reply, at the same time, "You? You don't need to be ashamed! You're not Austrian!". And then she giggled and said "I know! I can't imagine how ashamed I'd be if I were actually Austrian myself, not just everyone else in my family!". So yeah.

I don't really think of myself as Austrian, but then again, I would not be the person I am had my grandmother not been from there. There are SO many traditions she brought with her, and I do love Austria a lot. Which leads to me feeling all giddy and proud when I watch Sound of Music. But anyway. The song is terrible. Gah.

At least the singer wore a dirndl. Much love to the dirndl!

austria, eurovision, dirndl
