The benefits of unemployment

Jun 16, 2009 18:59

Class started today, and it's looking more promising than I thought it would be. Less a complete waste of my time, just horribly and annoyingly inconvenient. I've been unemployed since Friday now. Still no good prospects, even though I'm open to just about anything at this point -- I submitted online applications to one of the two big grocery chains, but haven't actually gone in in person yet, nor have I applied for fast food yet... but I will, soon, if nothing else turns up. Won't pay the bills, but will make us less short on them, I guess.

But on a more positive note: sorrowsheart and I recently joined a csa (Community Supported Agriculture -- farms sell off shares of their crops to members, generally organic produce, and generally at a cheaper price than you'd pay in the store). The trick is, you never know what you're gonna get. This week, we got a mess of green tomatoes, and some caloro peppers, among other things.

Last night's menu: Chorizo and mexican cheese stuffed caloro peppers over a bed of spanish rice, topped with enchilada sauce and a side of guacamole (all from scratch, except the chorizo and cheese)

Tonight: Cajun catfish and fried green tomatoes, possibly with a remoulade sauce if I'm feeling particularly ambitious.

Unemployment means I have time and motivation to play in the kitchen again. Yay! Anyone want to come over for dinner?
