apartment craziness!
Well I went to Chicago this week. First of all I had no idea you couldn't take liquids on planes anymore, yes I've been living in a cave. So I packed this small suitcase so I wouldn't have to check my bag. Of course it had lotion and shampoo in it so I had to check it anyway. I would have brought a bigger bag had I known, but none of this is of importance.
Apartment hunting sucks!!! I used a company called The Apartment People. The girl, Amy, drove me around and showed me about 5 places. I fell in love with one of them. It was a huge studio for $675. It had 3 closets, a pool, and a fitness room! It was perfect. So I applied and of course I get denied. It was all very shady. I provided a letter stating I would have employment and my credit was good. Amy assured me that this landlord was laid back and he would cool with the employment letter, but if he wasn't I might have to provide a co-signer.
Well a few days later apt. people call me and tell me that landlord doesn't think I'll be able to afford the place because I'll just be working part time. So I provide a co-signer. They call me later and say he doesn't want to deal with anyone else to get the rent. So I offer to pay 3 months up front. He says no. Jackass!!
So I lost that lovely apartment.
I'm freaking out by this point because it's wednesday and I go home friday morning and I have no apartment. Chicago has this weird policy that you can't apply for more than 1 apartment at a time because by applying you are agreeing that you will take the apt. if you are approved. So you can't have 5 applications floating around b/c more than one could get approved and then your stuck. (I don't know if this is a Chicago thing or an Apartment People thing)
Anyway I'm freaking because I have no idea what to do. Luckily my friend Kathleen was very learned on the subject. She checked some websites and made some calls and got me 3 appointments to look at places on thursday.
I found a jr. 1 bedroom that I really like. Basically it's a one bedroom with a very small bedroom. But for me it has a lot of space. So I applied for that (and was also told that I couldn't apply for the other studio he showed me at the same time) and I'll hear from them on Monday maybe Tuesday. Hopefully that one will come through. If not I'll have to go to Chicago and stay with a friend and just stay until I find a place.
