My break / Mia paŭzo

Hello lj!

I find it only appropriate and fitting to take this time to write about all the things you don't care about in the form of my self-reflection. Don't worry, I use expository tones to keep you in the know.

My break was/is good! I got to do many things, and I think I've grown and changed in subtle yet important ways! I will now list these incidents and accidents, for convenience.

  1. Note that numbers are not nominal, not ordinal.
  2. I got to visit my verybestfriend at his culinary college way up north. We had some very dorky fun and got to catch up. He's going through some very definitive days for his life right now, and is dealing with more daily stresses than I care to imagine. I got to connect with a few other very good friends on this trip too, and I think this gave me some good mindfood concerning where my friends are, and where they should be.
  3. I spent X-mas with my widowed grandmother. We had a 14-attendee dinner, and seeing the way family members grow and change also got me thinking. My brother and I discussed this alot, which was great. We also consumed lots. And I got some wicked good gifts, including item 4.
  4. I learned Python! The new-generation scripting language enabled me to work and get good headway on my Independent study (a web-based sentence-parser). I also gained evermore knowledge about how I work with code, and why or why not I may want to continue devoting time to code all my life. Along the way, I gained much-needed knowledge and insight on Monty Python and absurdist/surreal humor. Oh, and I kept up with Esperanto and almost kept up with Mandarin.
  5. I did some jobs! Alyssa Binns payed my brother and I to provide her January 20th wedding with live music during the ceremony and dinner afterwards. She requested ragtime, and so I assimilated over an hour of Joplin two-steps; a surprisingly painless experience. Ask me about it if you want some analysis. I also have created a web-page for a friend's parent's tax firm; my second such gig, and most lucrative by far.
  6. I visited my PAPAPA! He moved to Pensacola, FL almost a year ago, and has only migrated north to visit once. He bought me a ticket and I spent 10 days bumming around beaches with him and his new rockin' girlfriend. They live very different from what I'm used to, and have lots of friends in interestingly low places. I got some new perspectives on activism, employment, and social inequality. And now I know how to make quick and delicious french toast and/or refried beans.

This upcoming semester should be interesting. With the need to take a Cornell course and the disruption that causes for my Wells schedule, I may have more free time than I've ever had while at school, or none at all.

And attending my Cornell class should have an interesting effect on me; in it is a crush/inspiration I've had since before 7th grade. Just seeing them in the room gives me an endorphine rush after about 5 minutes, and as a result I've already frightened random pedestrians with frenzy-induced barking and hissing.

But I'm most excited about getting to make music for credit!!!
