Shadows and Stones
My knees run like sand
I retch the gravel
From long ruined foundations
So precious, but easy to unravel
The castle we dreamed of building
Where we once stood
Nothing now but the blood on that ground
Where my mother once wished that we could
She spread her arms with promises
Broken before leaving fingertips
Whispers fuel my tired, weeping heart
Hope is taken in smaller and smaller sips
But here I stand, she will never forget
My arms full of Death as I carry him now
There will be no rise now that the sun has set
Here I am pale in the shackles you allow
My heart is full and searching
My limbs long but reaching end
I still cannot find you, grasp you
This is a break that Love cannot mend
See here how I am so still
Though the gashes run very red
I pretend not to know them
Because the hand that I hold is dead
