Slaying and swimming should not be combined

I managed not to leave the house on saturday, which was nice. I did lots of sewing (making a Maelstrom costume), which meant trying to remember how to use/thread the sewing machine without being shown, because moose_biscuit was at work.

The skirt's made and good, but I spent ages making a really complicated (five pieces) top and then decided something much simpler would suffice, so I'll be starting again on that - I just need to buy some velcro strip. All that's left to do is attempt 2 at the top and then the obi.

I also need to add some more snap fasteners to my fake leather obi, made for the event back in september, because it's now rather loose - I guess that means I've lost some belly, which is good. I like the belt to be good and tight to hold everything together and in, so tighter fastenings are called for.

On sunday morning we were up bright and early - I got to wake up the cat for a change, because he was asleep by my feet when I woke at about 8.15 and I bothered him until he woke up. Usually he wakes one of us at some ungodly hour demanding breakfast, so he got a taste of his own medicine.

There were onion bagels with poached eggs and garlicky fried mushrooms, and then we headed out to the allotment for a couple of hours. We've finally got the first planting bed prepared - I finished digging it over and MB made a nice wood edging for it. So this sunday we should finally get our first crop planted - our potatoes are sprouting nicely and ready to plant. We got some earlies and a main crop, so in a couple of months we should have a mountain of taters, and then another mountain in Aug/Sept.

Yay for veg!

While there we were befriended by one of the allotment strays, who is a very pretty but rather matted little longhaired tabby. An old woman apparently comes and gives her fresh fish every day, so the stray eats better than the Chad!

In the afternoon we had hairy boys around for pretendy fun time (and to feed them, because MB is convinced they don't eat properly other than when we cook for them.

The RP session went well (eventually) and I got to slice and dice some vamps. I threw a critical success in my attempt to slide along an ice bridge brandishing a sword, so that I gracefully glid along like Jane Torvill and sliced off two heads. Nice.

Useful lesson learned: fighting vampires while chest deep in water is really fecking hard.

Vampire: *Tries to drown Alabaster*
Alabaster: *Gurgles*
SheBit: *Flails at vampire with stake and misses*

Repeat several times.

I eventually got him, though.
