Tests, Jars and a Dog

Oct 06, 2011 01:21

This post is mostly to remind myself about the tests I have in the kiln.

As an added bonus for you, gentle reader, having to put up with this, I'm including a picture of some jars that are waiting to be fired and a cute picture of my monster dog, Rommy.

Everyone loves pictures of dogs, right?  Well, maybe not those cat people, but everyone else does.  Especially such a cute lovable and delicate dog like mine.

Jars
These are some jars I'm working on.  I'm really loving how the snakeskin/fish-scale/alligator texture is looking kind of like a woven basket on these.  I'm starting to really like the handles on the lids as well.  Can't wait to see them glazed.

Tests
The kiln is running and in addition to some pots with potential, I've got a number of tests in the kiln.

I'm listing them here so I can have a record and hopefully I'll post pictures when I see the finished product.
  • Kaki very thick and not so thick on the 900
  • I small square plate with Lapis lazuli and Verdegris both over/under each other. either 900 or 700 clay body. the plate is marked on the underside.
  • A porcelain yunomi with Verdegris over St John's Blue/Black
  • A porcelain yunomi with Houston Kaki
  • Porcelain shard with wood ash sprinkled over SJBB
  • Porcelain shard with wood ash sprinkled over Ellen's Halloween
  • A spare Porcelain lid with wood ash sprinkled over Lapis Lazuli
  • A porcelain yunomi with Oilspot over Kaki.  This is the second test as the first one looked pretty amazing.
  • What I hope will happen:
  • the wood ash on the Oil Spot Black will develop gold crystals.  I think it's possible.
  • Same thing for the St John's Blue Black
  • the Kaki gives me that dark base with bright res/orange crystals in it like before.
  • Some great crystal development on the lapis lazuli from the wood ash
  • the OSB/Kaki combo yields that beautiful mottled blue black hare's fur it did the first test
  • .
